okay so like... the whole “character dramatically takes off their glasses to reveal they were hot all along” thing?? idk why but i live for it every time even though it’s so dumb... lowkey like honestly who even wears glasses that thick anymore?? and somehow their hair is always perfectly messy after?? also shoutout to the “hacker types out furiously on a neon keyboard and the screen is just endless green text no one understands” trope. honestly that ones so overused but i still cheer when it happens in a heist movie or something. it feels so nostalgic even tho it makes 0 sense …

anyway what are your fav dumb tropes? i feel like we all have one we cant help but enjoy lol

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

SUEDE – “EMOTIONALLY UNAVAILABLE”

Suede has announced an expanded edition of their 2025 album Antidepressants which will be out July 10 via BMG there are 11 bonus tracks, including demos, scratch tracks and a few studio outtakes, including this ripper.

PAYCHEQUE – “HEATWAVE”

Paycheck, the LA-based duo of Alison Goldfarb and Jackson MacIntosh (TOPS, Sheer Agony), release their debut album this week and here’s one last synthy taste before you can hear the whole thing.

TWIN BLOOM – “MAGAZINE DREAMS”

Oakland, CA band Twin Bloom make ’80s-inspired rock, mixing pop and harder edged sounds. Their new self-titled EP is out July 10 and here’s the lead track.

KELSEY LU – “CUTTING OFF THE HEAD OF A GHOST”

Kelsey Lu‘s first album in seven years, So Help Me God, is out this Friday, and ahead of its release, they’ve given us a final early taste with the majestic, orchestrated “Cutting Off the Head of a Ghost.”

PORCHES – “ANGEL”

Porches today shared a new song, “Angel,” that is a tribute to Baby’s All Right owner Billy Jones, who died last July (Jones was also Porches’ manager). Band founder Aaron Maine wrote, “Uploaded a song i wrote for Billy last july to the porches bandcamp. lots of love to everyone missing him today. i feel like he’s with us all the time.”

MIKE D – “TRUE COLORS”

It’s the third single from Beastie Boys’ Mike D’s first-ever solo album.

“What I’m really in it for is just getting lost for seven hours a day in my music, leaving my worries behind and entering the spirit world of decisions that are made unconsciously with what keyboard to use or what sound to chase.” Kelley Stoltz has been making amazing DIY pop out of San Francisco for over 25 years, for such labels as Sub Pop, Third Man and John Dwyer’s Castle Face. His latest is If You Don’t Know Me, Buy Now and is his first of three albums planned for this year.

We talked to Kelley about the new albums, how he got into writing songs and home recording, and how he’s mostly ok with being a cult artist for the new episode of BV Interviews. We also talked about his time living in New York City in the ’90s where he worked briefly for Jeff Buckley (duties included sorting his fan mail), how he went from being an Echo & The Bunnymen superfan to opening for them and then actually joining the band, and his current role as a Robyn Hitchcock sideman. Plus: EBows, kids music, five records he thinks everyone should own and lots more.

You can hear our full conversation with Kelley Stoltz on the June 8 episode of BV Interviews, available wherever you get your podcasts and below.

The Cure played ‘Treasure’ and ‘In Your House’ for the first time in over a decade at their show at North Festival – watch below.

Robert Smith and co. played the second of their summer shows at the event in Maia, Portugal on Sunday night (June 7), two nights after their return to the stage as a headliner at Primavera Sound in Barcelona, a show that was enjoyed by thousands, including Fontaines D.C.’s Grian Chatten.

The North Festival set saw them bring in tracks that they did not play at Primavera, including the deep cut ‘Treasure’, a track from their 1996 album ‘Wild Mood Swings’, and ‘In Your House’, the goth classic from their second album ‘Seventeen Seconds’. The songs made their first appearances on a Cure setlist since 2013 and 2011 respectively.

Other songs they played in Portugal that did not make the cut at Primavera included ‘Want’ and ‘M’. Check out footage from the show here:

Another surprise in Porto tonight!
🖤

The Cure have just played “In Your House” from Seventeen Seconds for the first time since 2011.

They dedicated the entire first encore to Seventeen Seconds, performing four songs from the album back-to-back:

The Cure played:

‘A Night Like This’
‘Lovesong’
‘The Last Day Of Summer’
‘Burn’
‘Fascination Street’
‘alt.end’
‘Push’
‘Mint Car’
‘In Between Days’
‘Just Like Heaven’
‘Treasure’
‘Want’
‘From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea’
‘Endsong’
‘In Your House’
‘M’
‘Play For Today’
‘A Forest’
‘Lullaby’
‘Wrong Number’
‘The Walk’
‘The Lovecats’
‘Friday I’m In Love’
‘Close To Me’
‘Why Can’t I Be You?’
‘Boys Don’t Cry’

Smith also joined Olivia Rodrigo during her surprise set at Primavera this weekend (June 6), debuting their new duet ‘What’s Wrong With Me’. “I feel like I’m gonna cry,” Rodrigo said at the end of the song. “I can’t believe that’s a thing that happened in the real world and not just a figment of my imagination.”

Having now kicked off their 2026 summer UK and European tour, their next stop comes on Friday night (June 12) at Nova Rock in Austria. You can check out a full list of their upcoming UK and Ireland live shows below, and visit here to buy any remaining tickets.

The shows will mark The Cure’s first time on stage together since their show at London’s Troxy last November. That gig was in front of just 3,000 fans – including Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong, Radiohead‘s Ed O’Brien, Boy George, Mogwai‘s Stuart Braithwaite, and Pedro Pascal in the crowd – and came in celebration of their latest album, ‘Songs Of A Lost World’.

The Cure’s 2026 UK and Ireland headline shows are:

JUNE
26 – Marlay Park, Dublin
28 – Belsonic, Belfast

AUGUST
21 – Live From Wythenshawe Park, Manchester
23 – Edinburgh Summer Sessions, Royal Highland Showgrounds, Edinburgh

Smith previously confirmed that the band have another new album to follow up ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ that’s “virtually finished”, as well as a third new record also on the way. He added that he wanted to have at least one of those albums finished and shared before they head out on tour, suggesting that a release could be arriving before the new tour dates start.

The singer also added that he can imagine the celebrations continuing all the way up until the band hits their 50th anniversary. “We’ll probably be playing quite regularly through until the next anniversary – the 2028 anniversary! It’s looming on the horizon,” he shared.

like seriously, im sitting here listening to this mix and out of nowhere theres a fucking seagull or some owl hoots and i cant tell if its supposed to be atmospheric or just weird. is it because nature is chill or because someone thought ‘yeah this drop needs more seagulls’? and dont get me wrong, i get it for like ambient tracks or stuff thats supposed to feel outdoorsy but when its dropped in the middle of a banger it just feels out of place. unless its a jungle themed track or something, which tbh would be kinda cool. anyway im probably overthinking this but now im tempted to make a playlist of just tracks with random animal noises to see if it actually works or if its just distracting. anyone else notice this or am i just hearing things?

okay so i was blasting this one track earlier today (cant even remember the name now, typical) and it had this super urgent beat?? like you could practically see yourself sprinting for a bus or skidding into a meeting 5 mins late, all frazzled and out of breath ... anyway it got me thinking, are there other songs that just give off that "im so behind on life" vibe?? bonus points if theyre electric or synth-heavy cuz those always feel extra chaotic lmao

also side note: did you know theres a pulsar called the black widow that basically emits radio waves at such a precise rhythm it could hypothetically keep time better than an atomic clock??? (...i know this is unrelated but i had to share, its so cool)

anyway back to the point — what songs make you feel like youre in a movie montage of frantic coffee spilling and missed train platforms?!

like objectively they were worse in every way — battery died in a day, screens were tiny, you could barely text — but theres something about that little *snap* when you close em that just hits different. every time i see someone pull out a razr or some other ancient brick i get weirdly nostalgic even though i know id hate actually using one again its prob just rose-tinted glasses but idk man, modern phones are so sleek and functional and yet they feel so... soulless? like theyre missing some dumb charm. maybe its because flip phones were the last era before we all became glued to screens 24/7 now its like the phone owns you instead of the other way around. or maybe im just old and cranky.

like seriously, why does everyone act surprised when you point out the bassist did something cool in a song? its always 'oh yeah i guess the bassline is pretty good' like no, its the backbone of half the stuff you listen to. without it the song would just sound empty yeah the guitarist or singer might get the spotlight but without a solid bassline its just... noise. and dont even get me started on how people think its 'easy' to play bass its not. sure, its not as flashy as shredding on a guitar but its not less important. you try keeping a band together when someones off tempo or forgets their part bassists are the unsung heroes here maybe its because they dont do crazy solos or scream into a mic, idk. but next time you listen to a song, actually pay attention to the bass. you might be surprised how much its doing in the background. ...
