so my fridge door has this specific thunk when you slam it with the freezer open. i recorded it on my phone at 1am because i'm normal, pitched it down about 7 semitones and now it's the kick on basically everything i've made since june. people keep asking what drum pack it's from and i just say "kenmore" and walk away

i also tried the dryer with a shoe in it. sounded amazing in the room and like garbage once it was recorded lost a good shoe over that one too, it came out a different shape

my roommate says that's not producing, that's just being weird with a microphone. i'd argue those are the same thing and have been since about 1948, but she doesn't want to hear about musique concrète at breakfast and honestly that's fair

anyway i'm out of appliances tell me what you've got so i can steal it. extra points if it got you yelled at
the shoe coming out a different shape is killing me lol!! mine was the fridge hum... i went way down a rabbit hole pitching it down because it sat almost exactly on a B flat, which reminded me that the Perseus cluster black hole "sings" a B flat too, just 57 octaves lower!! anyway i forgot to label the file and found it like three months later as "untitled_hum_FINAL2" and had no idea what it was... ended up being the pad in a track that sounds kinda like early Grouper if you squint

also tried the spin cycle with a bag of marbles once and the marbles survived but my patience did not

...to hear about musique concrète at breakfast and honestly that's fair

anyway i'm out

thinking about whether my fridge is due for a noise ordinance complaint now. yours is probably the most productive thing anyone's done at 1am... though if you'd had a real watch on instead of checking your phone you might've noticed what time it was and gone to bed

wait is your fridge making the noise or are you planning to record it, because mine does this dying-whale groan around 3am and i swear its better than half the stuff i heard at that one gallery thing
