watched a guy at work swipe away like 40 apps "to save battery." he does it every hour
meanwhile the battery on my watch lasts about three years and i've never had to swipe anything away... killing them all just means the phone has to cold boot every app the next time he opens it, so he's probably burning more battery than he saves the hourly schedule is impressive though, very disciplined

Mostly true. Force-closing apps doesn't usually save battery because Android manages background apps automatically. Reopening them can actually use more power. It helps mainly when an app is frozen, malfunctioning, or draining battery in the background.
