city made it illegal to throw out old pc parts and the only dropoff is open two hours a month...
lol a box of power what, bricks? cables? i too have the box everyone has the box. mine has a power supply from a dell that died during the obama administration and i swear its breeding
two hours a month is crazy tho. i once called our dropoff to ask what time they opened and the guy said "depends." depends on WHAT sir i ended up keeping a crt monitor in my garage for like three years, and eventually my neighbor's kid spray painted a really nice moth on it. honestly it looked better than half the stuff at our local gallery then i felt like i couldnt throw it out bc now it was art
check if a best buy or staples near you takes stuff, ours takes monitors and cables for free most of the time or just post the whole pile on craigslist as "vintage" and some guy building a retro rig will drive an hour for it

lol "a box of power" is the most ominous way to describe a tangle of cables i've got one too and i swear half the bricks in it go to stuff i got rid of in 2009. stack the monitors on the dead tower, put a plant on top, done, thats an art installation now
well I've got a whole drawer of chargers myself and not one of them goes to anything I still own my grandson Tyler says Best Buy takes some of it for free so I'd call them before you wait around for that two hours a month!! tbh of course two hours a month is still more than the people at my Publix spend bringing their carts back... just my two cents!!
yeah best buy's legit for this https://www.bestbuy.com/site/services/recycling/pcmcat149900050025.c
limit is 3 items per household per day though, and monitors/tvs can have a fee or limits depending on the state so check before you haul a whole tower graveyard in. staples takes some electronics too. and if your county has a household hazardous waste site, it sometimes has longer

yeah best buy saved me last year!! i had like four dead hard drives and a GPU from 2014 just sitting in my closet... honestly i forgot i even had them until i tripped over the box lol. too many hobbies, not enough shelf space
also worth checking if your city does an e-waste day a couple times a year, mine does one in spring and they take basically anything and if any of the parts still work at all, a local makerspace or school robotics club might actually want them!! lowkey old PSUs especially
anyway now i'm thinking about how theres literally a dead satellite junkyard orbit above geostationary... they push old sats up there when they retire. so even space has an e-waste problem!! and space doesnt have a dropoff that's open two hours a month either

lol scruffy_pockets you got cut off at "stack the monit" and now i NEED to know the plan also mystery bricks from 2009 is very you. ill trade you my box of power for a box of charm, which you clearly already have. thats intellectual humor btw
ngl pam you cant just leave the publix thing hanging like that. two hours a month is more than the people at your publix what?? work? smile? i need closure. and sure, tell Tyler thanks, but I'm not hauling a 2009 gaming tower into best buy so some teenager can look at me with pity. been there already
wow glitterfuel just casually sitting on a WHOLE BOX OF POWER?? must be nice 🙄⚡ ive got three mystery bricks and none of them fit anything i own. and no trades, my charm isnt for sale lol. the monitors are getting stacked by the door til the 2 hour window opens, thats the whole plan 🚀
omg did everyone see glitterfuel flirting with scruffy_pockets in a thread about e-waste?? "box of charm"... I spit out my coffee!! Tyler says that's called rizz anyway I need the monitor plan too, this is better than Dateline. Just my two cents!!
lol pam the e-waste thread turning into a romance arc wasnt on my 2026 bingo card!! for the monitor thing, try a local makerspace or hackerspace... ours takes old monitors and parts for student builds, as long as they kind of work. gave them a pile of RAM sticks once and then forgot and almost bought more online the next week lol. anyway the two hours a month thing reminds me of how you can only see mercury for a little while right after sunset... ok im done, good luck everyone!!
two hours a month and they call that a recycling program... id wait by that door with you TurboGamingQueen, my watch doesnt need a charger so im free whenever. and youre right, the charm isnt for sale. id just be happy to get some for free...
TurboGamingQueen you have a PLAN?? and a door to stack stuff by?? must be nice. my monitors live in the bathtub now and i shower at the gym like some kind of raccoon. also three mystery bricks is three more than i have, mine all went to my cousin's "art installation" and honestly it slapped
scruffy_pockets you're just too funny a raccoon with that kind of charm can shower at my place any day!! tbh my grandson Tyler has a whole closet of old monitors too so you're in good company... I'd go see that art installation if you were my tour guide
pam if tylers closet has CRTs in it dont let him curb them thats basically why the ban exists, old tubes have a few pounds of lead in the glass https://www.epa.gov/recycle/used-electronics-faqs
and if anyones tossing old keyboards, pull the switches first. had a dell from like 1990 at a dropoff once and it had alps switches in it desoldered all 104, cleaned them and theyre in my build now ngl people throw those out constantly and it kills me
also https://search.earth911.com if the two hour window doesnt work for you
