Does anybody else turn the radio down when they're trying to find an address??

I swear I just did it again on the way to my friend Carol's new condo the DJ was playing something good too, I think it was Fleetwood Mac... and teh second I started squinting at house numbers I reached over and turned it way down like that was going to help me see!! It does not help I know it does not help and I still do it every single time. Tyler was in the car last month when I did it and he laughed at me so hard and said "Grandma the music isn't in your eyes"... very funny Tyler... but then HE turned it down when we were looking for a parking spot at the mall so I'd like that noted!! I saw a Dateline once where the whole case came down to a woman remembering which song was on the radio when she passed a certain car... and now every time I turn it down I think well there goes my alibi... lowkey anyway I finally found Carol's place and she has herons at her pond too, but they aren't nearly as friendly as mine... do you all turn it down, or is it just me and my grandson?? Just my two cents!!

and its not just the radio... I stop talking mid sentence too, my sister will be telling me about her knee and I'll go "hold on hold on" like she's the reason I cant find 4127... then I miss it anyway and have to turn around in somebody's driveway and feel like they're watching me through the blinds... I watched a Dateline Saturday where the whole case turned on a car going slow past a house so now I'm extra paranoid lol just my two cents!!

i turn the radio down, then the AC, and one time i made my passenger stop chewing. my brain apparently only has enough processing power for one thing and its reading house numbers that people have decided to paint in tasteful beige on a beige house. and if anybodys keeping score, the real crime is hiding your address behind a bush i'd honestly respect someone who spray painted their house number big and ugly on the curb, thats a public service

lol yes!! the curb numbers are the best... although half the time theyre faded from like 2009 so you still end up squinting

i turn the radio down AND take my sunglasses off, like that helps at all. lowkey last week i drove past my own dentist twice bc i was too busy explaining the Wow! signal to my sister... which btw was a radio signal from 1977 that nobody has ever explained!! tons of people have looked for it again and found nothing. anyway yeah, my brain apparently cant handle music and reading at the same time

owkey I had to go look up that Wow signal after reading your post... Tyler says it was probably a comet but he's fourteen and thinks he knows everything lol... my problem

tell Tyler he's about 7 years behind the comet idea was a 2017 paper by Antonio Paris and other astronomers tore it apart pretty fast, mostly because comets dont really put out hydrogen-line emission like that and one of his comets wasnt even in the beam. the newer idea from 2024 is a cold hydrogen cloud that briefly lit up when something bright behind it flared, maybe a magnetar. still not settled though

Thats so cool, i hadnt heard about the magnetar theory!! I was still stuck on the comet thing from years ago although tbh that tracks bc i forget half the stuff i read. It's kinda funny that the thread went from turning the radio down to listening to actual space radio lol

anyway back on topic, i dont just turn it down, i turn it all the way off and make everyone in the car stop talking. my sister calls it "parking lot mode"

lol parking lot mode... honestly i love that, I'm stealing it!! My late husband used to do the same thing except he'd also lean way forward over the steering wheel, like being three inches closer to the windshield would make the house numbers show up and of course half the houses in our neighborhood have the numbers on the mailbox facing the wrong way so you can't see them until you've already gone past I was trying to find my friend Donna's new place last week and I went around the retention pond twice, the herons were probably wondering what that crazy lady was doing lol... Just my two cents!!

YES and i will die on this hill, the radio has to go DOWN to like a 3 or my eyes straight up stop working. dont ask me how the science works, my brain only has so much bandwidth and Kenny Loggins is eating all of it

the mailbox thing is SO real tho who decided numbers should face the house?? the mailman already knows where he is lol

one time i was looking for this old mini golf place off route 9. the sign was a giant fiberglass gorilla holding the address and half the numbers had peeled off went past it FOUR times. the gorilla was still there, just missing an arm and most of a 7. kinda broke my heart, that place used to be the BEST. nobody paints those things anymore

anyway i turned the radio down so far i couldnt find the station again after. ngl guess you could say i lost my frequency of joy
