  • seriously, whats with names like "bassquaker" or "glitchflux"? its like they just smashed two vaguely tech-sounding words together and called it a day. dont get me wrong, some are cool, but others just scream "i used a generator." feels like no one even tries to check if it sounds dumb out loud ive seen a few threads lately about branding for new djs and this keeps coming up. like, if youre trying to stand out, at least pick something that doesnt sound like it belongs on a bad startup logo. or am i the only one who cringes at this stuff? also, quick tip for anyone picking a name: say it in a sentence. "youre listening to dj bassquaker" should not make you laugh.

yeah i get what you mean... some of those names just feel like they were spit out by a 'cool name generator' app and nobody bothered to say "wait, does this actually sound good?"

it’s like theyre so focused on being unique or edgy that they forget it still needs to be something people can say without cringing... or worse, forget entirely because it blends into the sea of other 'futuristic' sounding nonsense. idk, maybe its just hard to come up with something original these days but at least run it past a friend first or better yet, say it out loud a few times and see if it makes you wince. 🤦

yeah i get what you mean.
haha yeah!! some of them are so try-hard it’s like... like, did anyone even say this out loud first??? i bet theres an app for that lmao... also have you heard of the band 'starless night echo' they have this one song that feels like it was named by ai but it slaps

yeah, it’s like they’re trying to sound futuristic or edgy but end up just generic. some names feel so overthought they lose any personality. ‘starless night echo’ tho? doesnt sound ai to me, just vague and pretentious, which is its own problem also, if you’re naming a band or act, at least test it by saying it in a sentence. “you should check out bassquaker” just sounds awkward. wonder if anyone’s done a study on how many djs regret their name later.

must be nice to casually critique dj names while i sit here endlessly cycling through thesaurus tabs trying to name my hypothetical synthwave project. starless night echo doesnt sound ai? *okay*, sure jan. seriously though rub it in why dont you, act like you just naturally landed on something cool and unique wow.

wait, **starless night echo** slaps?? tbh now i gotta check them out i always feel like those names are either super generic or trying way too hard to sound mysterious. like, how many "neon void" or "midnight pulse" variations can there be before it all blends together?? ugh but honestly, if the music’s good, i dont even care what they call themselves i knew this one dj who legit named themselves after a random receipt item—like "coconut milk 3.99"—and it kinda worked??? idk man, naming stuff is hard. maybe we’re all overthinking it...

i dunno, some of those names are just lazy branding. like they picked two random words from a generator and slapped em together. but then again, if it sticks in your head, does it matter? ‘coconut milk 3.99’ is weird enough to be memorable, so props for that. also, theres a difference between ai-sounding and just uninspired. ‘midnight pulse’ is so overdone it might as well be a stock name. but something like ‘starless night echo’ at least tries for mood, even if it misses. tbh i think its less about ai and more about people not wanting to stand out too much—they aim for safe and end up forgettable. or maybe its just harder to be original when every good name feels taken.

'ilk 3.99' does sound like someone fed 'quirky dj name generator' into chatgpt. its not bad tho, just... odd. like they wanted to stand out but ended up in the uncanny valley of naming. 'midnight pulse' tho? honestly yeah thats the definition of 'couldnt think of anything so here's a default option.' its so bland it disappears halfway through saying it. 'starless night echo' at least has some effort behind it, even if it feels like they were aiming for 'ethereal' and landed on 'generic fantasy novel title.' its not ai, its just trying too hard tbh a lot of dj names are just people overthinking how to sound cool or mysterious. like theyre scared of being basic so they go full 'what if my name was a sci-fi poem' and it backfires. sometimes simplicity works better id rather hear 'dj mike' than 'nebula whisper 420.'

yeah some of them sound like they just mashed a bunch of random words together and hoped it sounded 'deep' or 'edgy' 😂 like 'crystal pulse dimension'??? come on but idk some djs prob just want something that feels mysterious or unique without trying too hard, and it backfires into sounding like ai spit it out 🤷‍♂️ starless night echo at least kinda paints a picture, even if its not amazing.

i mean, isnt the whole point of a dj name to sound like it was made by ai circa 2008? like 'bassquake neon vortex' or whatever. maybe theyre just leaning into it at this point. cant blame em for wanting something that sticks in your head even if it sounds ridiculous. also dont act like starless night echo is some masterpiece of naming, its fine but youd forget it in two seconds if it wasnt right in front of you.

yeah i get what you mean about names blending together... sometimes it feels like theyre just throwing words in a hat and pulling out "cosmic drift" or "lunar mirage" lol. but also, i wonder if its bc they want something that sounds like it could be a band name too? like back in the day there were so many indie bands with names that sounded ai-generated, **remember "beach house" or "galaxie 500"?** those feel kinda similar imo. anyway, doesnt matter as long as the set slaps!!

yeah i get what you mean about the indie band thing. like half of them sound like they were named by throwing d&d dice at a thesaurus. but dj names might just lean harder into 'this sounds cool and slightly mysterious' cuz theyre tryna sell a vibe more than a personality? like 'midnight pulse' is so generic it could be a stock photo caption but maybe thats the point—its forgettable enough to not distract from the music. or maybe im overthinking it and they just liked the way it sounded. either way, as long as they dont call themselves something like 'bassdrop wizzard' im good

maybe its just easier to market something that doesnt scream 'this is a person with quirks and baggage'? like if your name is 'echo chamber' or whatever, it doesnt matter whos behind it—the name does the work of sounding edgy and detached. its branding over identity. plus, ai prolly would spit out names like that if you fed it 'cool + mysterious + night vibes' so maybe theyre just cribbing from the same formula.

I think that these are the nicknames of those DJs. We are living in an era where AI is regularly used in various different ways, so it makes sense that to those DJs might be using names generated by AI. I do not think that there should be any kind of problem with that.

yeah i feel like its also just **trends** like one person uses a name generator or ai tool, then everyone thinks "oh that sounds cool and futuristic" and copies it... remember when every indie band in the 2000s had "wolf" or "stars" in their name??? its the same vibe but for djs now... plus ai tools are so accessible its prob just faster to plug in keywords and get something that sounds edgy than sit there and brainstorm... idk though, some of those names are so generic they dont stick in your head at all... i saw one last week, "stellar echo" or something, and im like ah yes, the sound of stars, very unique... lol.

I believe that DJs do not use their really names on purpose. This is why they usually use AI-generated names. Having said that, it is always important to use unique and real names. The names you have mentioned looks a bit spammy. AI is capable of generating great names.
