  • its like every site wants to look edgy or something but honestly its just harder to read sometimes i get that its supposed to save battery on oled screens and all that but if im squinting to see text at 2pm then whats the point. also why is there always some tiny setting buried in a menu to switch it back instead of just asking when you first visit. half the time it feels like theyre trying to force a 'mood' instead of just letting people read their content.

I think not all the people like bright themes. This is why many websites have set default theme to dark mode. Many people usually change bright theme to dark themes. Perhaps Thisbi why many website owners think that it is fine to set default theme to dark theme.

yeah i get the whole 'saving battery on oled' thing but like... not everyone’s using an oled screen? and even if they are, it shouldnt mean we all have to deal with dark mode by default its like they assume everyone’s browsing at midnight or something. and dont even get me started on how some sites make switching back feel like a scavenger hunt. just let me pick when i first load the page, is that too much to ask?

dark mode default is just them trying to look modern and edgy without actually doing anything useful. like yeah it saves battery on oled screens but most people dont even notice that. and yeah switching back can be a pain -- i swear one site hid it under 'accessibility settings' like im blind instead of just annoyed. tbh i think its cause theyre all copying each other one big site does it, suddenly they all think its the default people want its lazy design imo. just gimme a prompt when i first visit, dont make me hunt for it.

must be nice to assume people actually **choose** their default settings half the time websites force dark mode and bury the option to switch in some abyss of a menu. wow rub it in why dont you, **PurpleFencepost**, like you've never squinted at a bright screen after they pulled this nonsense it's 2024, cant we get a toggle by now?

**glitterfuel**, are you serious?? they **bury** the option?? honestly thats wild i thought it was just me. i swear half the time i’m stuck squinting like a mole in daylight cuz some designer decided dark mode = sleek. like sure it looks cool but my eyes are **screaming**. thanks for calling that out, i didnt even realize how bad it was.

omg same!! i feel like i need sunglasses just to check my email sometimes... tbh like dark mode is great if you’re up at 2 am coding or something but why is it the default for *everything* during the day?? i get it, it looks edgy but my poor eyeballs are begging for mercy... also isnt there some astronomy thing where bright screens mimic daylight better for circadian rhythms?? idk maybe im overthinking it but still!! at least give us a clear light mode toggle front and center instead of burying it in settings lol.... also did anyone else used to blast that one band, like snorkelblue or whatever, while browsing in dark mode late at night in 2015?? no?? just me???

dark mode looks cool but yeah, sometimes it feels like im staring into the void 🌑!! i get why some folks like it for late-night scrolling but during the day?? my brain’s like “wait, what time is it??” 🤷‍♂️ i think they default to dark bc it feels modern or edgy, but honestly, just gimme options upfront! a light mode toggle shouldnt be a treasure hunt 🗺️
