  • like i get it the suburbs can be boring but every time i hear one of these tracks its all slow guitar and lyrics about empty streets and lost dreams. do people just associate the burbs with angst or what. tbh i grew up in one and yeah it was dull sometimes but it wasnt tragic. maybe its just easier to write a moody song about somewhere quiet than somewhere loud. or maybe its all just an excuse to use reverb... anyway next time youre feeling down put on a suburbs song and see if it makes you feel better or worse. personally id rather listen to something about cities at 3 am but thats just me

honestly the suburbs are just kinda... there. nothing really happens? so yeah a sad song fits because whats the alternative, a hype track about mowing the lawn or waiting for the school bus? 😅 plus reverb does slap in a quiet vibe, so maybe thats half the reason. dont overthink it.

i think its cuz the suburbs are like this weird in-between space... not city energy but not countryside chill either? so songs lean into that vibe of like, waiting for something to happen but nothing does plus suburb nostalgia is always tinged with "what couldve been" energy imo. aLSO! dont forget how reverb mimics the empty echo of wide streets at night... see, told you id go niche 🌃
