why do so many dj names sound like they’re trying to sound mysterious but end up just sounding like a bad startup pitch

like ‘vaporwave nomad’ or ‘neon horizon’ or whatever. i get it, you want to stand out, but it feels like theyre all pulling from the same hat of edgy buzzwords. whats wrong with just being ‘steve’ or something normal. anyway i dont even know if this is a real complaint or if im just annoyed because i saw a flyer for a show with a dj called ‘quantum drift’ and it made me roll my eyes so hard i almost sprained something.

i mean, it's branding. 'steve' doesn't scream 'come see my edgy underground set at 2 am in a warehouse.' it's all about standing out, even if it's cringe. 'quantum drift' probably sounded cool in their head after too much caffeine and a thesaurus. that said, some names are just lazy. like, at least try to not sound like you named your ai startup instead of a dj act.
