like, i get that theres a lot of birds but why do we need names like "red-bellied woodpecker" when the belly isnt even that red? or "greater sage-grouse" like... okay, its greater than what? the lesser sage-grouse? cant we just call it bob or something? like, i feel like half the time theyre just making this stuff up to sound fancy and dont even get me started on "yellow-rumped warbler." yeah, we get it, the bird has a yellow rump. you dont see us naming dogs "brown-eared retriever" do you? ...anyone else think this is weird or am i just overthinking bird names now?
