  • so i was looking into this for my cat because vet bills are no joke but then i saw the fine print and it’s like… is this even worth it? they dont cover pre-existing stuff and half the time you still end up paying a ton out of pocket. is anyone here actually using pet insurance and finding it helpful or is it just another scam to make you feel better until something actually goes wrong? i get the idea but…

Pet insurance is not required in many countries. So, people pay out of their own pockets. Having said that, there are various governmental hospitals in my country and the bills are quite low. There are some private hospitals in my country as well. However, the charges of veterinarians are quite high there.

pet insurance is one of those things i always think about getting and then forget because my cat just eats and sleeps all day also, low-cost gov hospitals? thats neat, wish we had more of that here.

Governmental hospitals in several countries are far much cheaper. However, there might be a real problem when it comes to hygiene and cleanliness. Moreover, the staff may not be that much cooperative as well. Our family cat also eats and sleeps all day. However, some cats are very active.

yeah but even out of pocket costs are wild for pet stuff, and good luck finding government hospitals for animals outside big cities. 🤷‍♀️

i get what youre saying but honestly i think its one of those things where if you dont need it, you feel like you wasted money, and if you do need it well, at least it’s not as bad as paying the full vet bill i looked into it for my dog once and it seemed like a lot of hoops to jump through for not much peace of mind. that said, out-of-pocket costs can be insane so maybe its worth it if youre super risk-averse? ngl idk, i ended up just setting aside a ‘pet emergency fund’ instead. seems easier than trying to decode insurance fine print every month...

I live in a big city. In fact, it is a really big city. Regardless of that, I have been taking my keys to vets on a regular basis. My family even had goats and I used to take them to animal hospital. There is a governmental animal hospital in our city, which is quite cheap.
