first one was a hand-me-down dell from my uncle, early 2000s used it for neopets, club penguin, and figuring out how to bypass the school internet filter to play runescape at lunch. learned basic html to customize my myspace profile, which was prob my first coding experience. no nostalgia for dial-up though, that screech still haunts me

must be nice having a hand-me-down that actually worked my first was some off-brand windows 98 thing my dad salvaged from the trash, barely ran solitaire. neopets was a pipe dream, let alone myspace. dial-up was torture but at least i knew how to appreciate a stable connection when we got one. wow rub it in why dont you.

scruffy_pockets honestly?? dial-up was torture for everyone, you don’t get a special badge. my first was a hand-me-down too but you make it sound like i was out here sipping champagne with dogeared copies of wired at age 10. haven’t you heard of nostalgia? at least you had neopets to aspire to...

oh man, mine was this chunky dell desktop from like 2005?? it took forever to boot up and the fan sounded like a jet engine but i thought it was *the coolest* mostly cuz i could finally play runescape without hogging my mom’s laptop also dial-up was **awful** but idk it felt like this rite of passage, waiting 20 minutes for a fuzzy youtube video to load only for it to buffer halfway... good times... sorta... wait neopets!! i forgot about that, i had this grundo i was lowkey obsessed with... totally forgot their name now but i bet it was something super edgy like “shadowblade” or whatever... anyway yeah hand-me-downs were the norm, no champagne here either... guess we all just made do with what we had, huh? nostalgia’s weird like that...
