  • seriously, what’s with tracks where the lyrics are just random phrases strung together? like they sound cool but if you actually think about it, it’s just vibes with no meaning it’s not even poetic gibberish, just… nothing. like that one song where they just repeat “blue jeans, red dress” for half the chorus. whats the point? is it supposed to be abstract art or did they run out of ideas? tbh dont get me wrong, i like a good bop, but sometimes it feels like they’re banking on people not paying attention anyone else feel this way or am i overthinking it? lowkey also, link me if you know songs like this so i can cringe at them too.

i mean, sometimes it’s just about the vibe, right? like, who cares if the lyrics are 'nothing' if the beat slaps and it makes you wanna dance honestly isn’t that kind of the point of a pop song? i get what you’re saying but also, gimme a catchy hook over deep lyrics any day. not everything has to be profound tbh i think ‘blue jeans, red dress’ works because it’s stupidly simple and sticks in your head. yeah it’s dumb but that’s why it works?? lowkey we all gotta admit we’ve sung along to worse also, isn’t half the fun of pop music laughing at how ridiculous it can be while still enjoying it? idk man, i feel like you might be overthinking this one. (also, side note: isn’t ‘abstract art’ just a fancy way of saying ‘i dont get it but it looks cool’? maybe that’s what these songs are. who knows.)

yeah i mean i get it, sometimes you just want something dumb and catchy to sing in the car... but like, there’s a difference between simple and meaningless, right? like ‘blue jeans, red dress’ is fun for two seconds but then it’s just there. doesnt even make you think about jeans or dresses at least give me a hook with a little flavor, you know? something that feels like it could mean something if you squint hard enough. otherwise it’s just noise. ...or maybe im overthinking this and should just enjoy the bass drop. whatever.

yeah exactly, SOME SONGS ARE JUST FLUFF BUT DONT EVEN MAKE YOU WANNA MOVE although "blue jeans, red dress" HAS A RHYTHM, i like it better when there’s at least ONE WEIRD LINE to grab you. idk purplefencepost, your take is solid but what about songs that are SO BAD they loop back to genius?

i dunno, sometimes songs like that are just about the vibe. like, you’re not supposed to think too hard, it’s more about how it feels when you’re half-listening in the car. but yeah, one weird line can make it stick—like that one track with “i’m a gummy bear on fire” outta nowhere doesnt make sense but it’s memorable

yeah some lyrics are just there to sound cool or weird, not to mean anything. i think it’s funny when people try to analyze them like it’s poetry. like that one song with “blue banana in the sky”—what even is that supposed to be? but it sticks in your head so mission accomplished i guess.

yeah exactly, some songs are just there to be catchy or weird enough to stick. doesnt matter if the lyrics mean anything—it’s about the hook. i think people overanalyze because they want it to be deeper than it is. like, “blue banana in the sky” is probably just nonsense to fill a rhyme. same with “gummy bear on fire”—it’s dumb but it works. tbh i think its funny when fans insist there’s some hidden meaning. sometimes the artist just threw words together because they sounded cool. doesnt make it bad, just means it’s not poetry.

oh man yeah i get that!! like half the time i think they’re just vibing with the sound of the words?? it’s so funny how fans will be like “no this is a metaphor for climate change” when the artist was probably just tired and hungry lmao. honestly some of my favorite songs are like that, where it feels like theyre making up a story on the spot and it doesnt have to mean anything deep, it just sticks in your brain. reminds me of this one band i used to listen to in college, they had this song about i think it was something like “octopus in a hat”?? but the music was so good you didnt even care the lyrics were weird. sometimes its just about how it hits you, you know?

yeah some songs are just vibes and that’s fine. like who cares if it ‘means’ something as long as it slaps? i remember this one track that was literally just repeating “la la la” over a sick beat and people still argued it was deep tbh nah, sometimes it’s just fun and doesnt need to be more than that.

yeah i get that! tbh sometimes you just wanna groove and not think too hard 🤷‍♂️ like that song “barbie girl” or whatever — it’s silly but catchy and nobody’s sitting there analyzing it. who needs deep meanings when the chorus is stuck in your head for days?? 🚀

totally agree. like that one song that’s just “hey mickey” over and over — what’s it even about? who cares, it’s fun as hell. sometimes you dont need a message, you just need something dumb and catchy to scream in the car. i swear half the best pop songs are just glorified jingles for existence.
