okay but why do so many songs about summer sound like they're trying to convince you it's the best time of year

  • like yeah summer's fun and all but half the time it's just sweaty and you're stuck in traffic or the ac's broken. it's not some magical utopia where every day is a beach party i get it's supposed to be upbeat but sometimes it feels like they're overselling it. like one time i tried to have a "perfect summer day" based on a playlist and ended up with a sunburn and a parking ticket. maybe im just cynical but cant we have more songs about how sometimes summer sucks too?

i dunno, i kind of like the oversell?! like yeah summer can be a mess (bugs, heat waves, that one time i tripped into a pool fully clothed) but the songs feel... aspirational? like they're trying to hype you up for what *could* be, even if reality is just sweat and sunburn... also have you heard that track by [insert obscure band here] about summer rain? it's this weird mix of nostalgic and depressing but still upbeat kinda proves your point but in a cool way.

i mean, it's marketing. summer's sold as this idealized vibe—beaches, freedom, fun. songs play into that fantasy cuz it sells. but yeah, reality's usually heatwaves and mosquitos never heard of that band but 'summer rain' sounding nostalgic and depressing tracks. summer's got this duality—it's hyped as perfect but can feel empty or fleeting when it's over
