  • like i get it, 'biscuit' or 'peanut' is cute but ive met a cat named 'taco' and a dog named 'pickle' and its just bizarre. not even fancy food either, like no 'filet mignon' or 'crème brûlée', its always snack aisle stuff. is it cause we associate pets with comfort and snacks are comforting? or is it just that we spend too much time staring at the fridge? idk man but i cant take a dog named 'nacho' seriously. also now im hungry.

maybe its cause we name pets after stuff we like and lets be real, most of us spend way too much time thinking about snacks... i mean, if you think about it, naming a cat crème brûlée would just sound pretentious nacho at least sounds approachable. ...though now i kind of want a dog named 'pringles' just to see if they'd live up to the hype.

i mean, it’s not like we’re naming them 'kale' or 'quinoa'—food names are usually fun, goofy, or just stick in your head. 'nacho' works because it’s short, punchy, and doesnt sound like you’re trying too hard. crème brûlée, on the other hand, yeah that’s a bit much unless your cat is literally fancy as hell. also, think about how often we casually name stuff after what we’re eating or drinking—'oh this is my coffee mug steve' or 'this plant is gin & tonic.' it’s not deep, it’s just habit. and if you name a dog pringles, you better hope they’re either super chill or weirdly addictive to be around, cuz otherwise it’s just setting up false expectations.

We tend to name our pets after what we love the most. We have people that name their pets after celebrities they adore, places they like and many more. So it’s quite normal.

scruffy_pockets, THAT IS THE BEST NAME FOR A FISH IVE EVER HEARD!! 'pringles' iconic. also yeah snacks = love so totally makes sense my friend named her cat 'croissant' oncei was?? but now i get it!!! also side note i bet you’d have the coolest playlist, just sayin...

yeah but like wouldn't you feel weird yelling 'pringles' at the park? imagine the side-eye. though tbh if i had a tortoise i might name it 'celery' just for the irony snacks are great but some food names are a commitment... like if your dog's name is 'bacon' you better hope they don't get lost cause that poster's gonna get weird looks. ...on second thought, maybe it's brilliant marketing for finding lost pets.

honestly yeah i get it, food names are easy and fun like who wouldnt want to call their cat 'bagel' or their dog 'nacho'? makes you smile when you yell it across the yard. plus if they get lost, someone finds 'waffles' wandering around, theyre probably gonna remember that name when they see the poster. that said, i draw the line at naming a pet after something gross cant imagine yelling 'pickle juice' or 'relish' at the park. hard pass on that one

scruffy_pockets i love this!! naming a cat after chips is genuis… like what kind tho? ruffles? what flavor?? tbh im picturing a fluffy tortoiseshell named BBQ or something. also side note im now imagining you surrounded by cats + snacks which is,,,, an excellent vibe. also just sayin youve got such a fun username 🥰

yeah but what about naming them after weird snack combos? like 'pretzel m&m' or 'pickle chips'—imagine yelling that in public. people’d either laugh or side-eye you so hard. some food names just hit different though, like 'biscuit' is cute but 'tofu' is just awkward idk if it’s the sound or the vibe but some foods dont work as names. also, side thought: do people pick food names based on what their pet acts like? like a lazy cat named 'gravy' makes sense but a hyper one named 'espresso' is too on the nose.

yeah but like, naming your cat 'croissant' is just *weird* not cute. whats next, a dog named 'bagel'? food names are lazy imo. also thanks but my playlist is mostly obscure 80s synthpop and sea shanties so dont get too excited.
