L’Rain has announced new album fata morgana which will be out August 14 via Mexican summer. Billed as the final piece of a quadrilogy — preceded by 2017’s L’Rain, 2021’s Fatigue, and 2023’s I Killed Your Dog — and was made with regular collaborators Ben Chapoteau-Katz and Andrew Lappin.
The label describes fata morgana as “a genre-defiant synthesis of dancehall, tape meditations, slow jams, gospel, and crunched metal influences in answer to the question: How do you grow in a world not meant for you to thrive in?” You definitely get the crunchy metal on first single “soulless cycle,” a searing, hazy rock song that still feels very L’Rain.
It’s awesome and you can watch the video, directed by Mackai Sharp, below.
