David Harbour has spoken for the first time about the “weird” experience of Lily Allen detailing their break-up on her ‘West End Girl’ album.

Allen’s fifth studio album was released last October and was written and recorded in 10 days following the collapse of her marriage to the Stranger Things actor, after he allegedly cheated on her.

She described the record as “a mixture of fact and fiction” that details the “complexities of relationships and how we all navigate them”, and has said it was inspired by her “deep-rooted issues with rejection and abandonment” after her divorce. She later stated that she did not view it as a “cruel” album and was not seeking “revenge”.

Harbour has not spoken about being the subject of much of the album before, other than saying he “would change either everything or nothing” in an interview in November, but has addressed the situation in a new interview with Variety.

“It was weird,” Harbour said about living through the album’s release cycle. “I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that.”

“I can’t really say that much more, because it’s my private life,” he continued. “In spite of the fact that a lot of people don’t allow me a private life – I value it. And I also value the lives of the people that I interact with privately. I just won’t speak about that.”

“Stories are complex,” he added. “And that’s why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn’t my experience.”

Harbour also stated in the interview that he had a “breakdown” at the end of 2025, adding: “Under times of extreme stress, that can cause somewhat erratic behavior, and it’s embarrassing, and I’m ashamed of it. It’s not something I choose, and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. I do feel like, for some of us, our gifts are inextricably linked with our illnesses. To have a nervous system that reacts to the world in a too-delicate way can allow me to have that moment that I love on the swings with Jason. But it can also force me, in moments of extreme stress, to act a little weird.”

One song on ‘West End Girl’, titled ‘Madeline’, saw Allen sing about confronting the woman Harbour was seeing behind her back, and a woman came forward shortly after the record’s release claiming to be ‘Madeline’ and having had an affair with the actor.

Allen also kicked off the ‘West End Girl’ tour by performing in a dress that showed receipts for Harbour’s alleged gifts for other women.

In a four-star review, NME described ‘West End Girl’ as “a sleek, smart collection that sees Allen back at her very best”. It hailed the singer’s “pop hooks and brutal honesty”, and called the LP “a slow-burn break-up album with Allen taking heavy inspiration from her own life”.

Reports of Allen’s separation from Harbour emerged at the start of last year, amid rumours that the Stranger Things star had cheated. Later, Allen revealed that she went into a treatment centre to deal with the “emotional turmoil” of the break-up.

Allen and Harbour began dating in 2019 after meeting on the dating app Raya, and tied the knot in an intimate Las Vegas ceremony in 2020.

is it just me or does every other ambient/lofi track have rain or wind samples in the background lately? like yeah theyre nice but its starting to feel like a crutch. are people just googling 'calm rain sounds' and slapping it under their beats or is there some deeper reason im missing? lowkey i get that it sets a vibe but it feels overdone at this point. tbh also if youre gonna use weather sounds at least make them subtle. theres this one track i heard where the rain was so loud it drowned out the melody and i couldnt tell if it was intentional or just bad mixing. anyone else feel this way or is it just me being picky about production trends? (also if you know good tracks that use weather sounds well im open to recs, maybe im just hearing the wrong ones)

ok so i know there are a TON of songs about the ocean and summer and sunset drives but what about **stargazing**?? like actual songs where its just about sitting outside late at night and watching the sky?? i feel like theres this whole mood that gets overlooked. weve got 'starry starry night' but thats more about van gogh than the actual stars. idk man i want some tunes for when youre out in the middle of nowhere and its just YOU and the universe. feel free to drop recs if youve got em also not tryna be cheesy here but if youve ever seen the milky way for real with no light pollution lemme know where bc ive only seen it once and it was WILD. anyway yeah songs about stars. go.

Re-watching movies isn't my thing but I can make an exception if the movie is very good. The only movie I've rewatched recently is Avengers : Infinity Wars. It's the best Marvels movies.

Do you like re-watching movies?

so i was messing around trying to find something chill for my desktop because i get distracted easily and i found out wallpaper engine has all these new 3d scenes now?? like you can have low-poly planets spinning or vines growing on your screen and idk why but it’s so cool?? i guess i havent used it in years and now i feel like im late to the party as usual it’s wild how much this stuff has leveled up... though im lowkey worried itll wreck my gpu usage even on 'low impact' settings lol does anyone else use this or am i just way behind the times again? also now im wondering if there are any indie devs making wallpapers that double as generative art (like... the kinda stuff you’d see at a net art gallery in the mid-2000s?? you know what i mean??) cause that’d be ✨ chef’s kiss ✨ but maybe im overthinking this haha...

like, i was blasting this one track earlier today on my way to grab groceries (yeah, riveting life i lead) and it hit *so* differently compared to when i played it at home. honestly something about the rhythm lining up with the road noise and the scenery whizzing by just makes it feel like the song was made for that exact moment and its not even a road trip song or anything, just a random indie track with some guitar and synths idk if its the bass vibrating through the car or the fact that youre kind of in this weird headspace when youre driving — half autopilot, half zoning out — but it always feels more cinematic even songs i dont normally care about suddenly feel epic when im doing 60 on the highway. anyone else get this or am i just weird for thinking my car is a better sound system than my actual speakers?

like, remember when bands would drop an album that was one big story or theme? i feel like that doesn’t really happen anymore ngl it was cool to sit down and listen to something that felt like a whole experience, not just a playlist of singles. now it’s all about the hits and tiktok clips. don’t get me wrong, some of those are great but... idk, it’s not the same. maybe i’m just old or too into my vinyl collection. anyway, do yall miss that or is it just me...
