Grohl said earlier this year that she didn’t like male musicians her age.

“I don’t like male musicians my age – I don’t care,” she said. “They have attitude problems. They’ve been saying this about us for so fucking long – it’s time that they sit down, be quiet and play their music.

“The best advice I’ve been given is that it’s OK to say no or that you don’t want to do something,” she continued. “For a lot of women, it took them a really long time to accept and implement that into their lives. It’s inspiring to be around the kinds of people who don’t give a fuck and will say whatever they feel.”

Meanwhile, father Dave Grohl revealed several months ago that he had “no idea” Violet had signed a record deal until she told him at dinner.

James Handy, an actor who had appeared in a number of films including Top Gun: Maverick and Logan, has died at the age of 81. His girlfriend’s son was arrested and accused of murder.

A statement by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), shared by Variety, read: “On Wednesday June 3 2026, around 9:30 a.m., West Valley area patrol officers responded to a radio call of unknown trouble in the 19200 block of Erwin Street. The 911 caller stated, ‘I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.’”

It continued: “Upon their arrival, officers discovered 81-year-old James Handy in the front yard of the residence, unconscious and suffering from a stab wound to his chest. The victim was transported to local hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, where he was pronounced deceased.

“The suspect flagged down nearby responding officers, telling them he was the one they were looking for. The suspect resides at the location with his mother, who is the victim’s girlfriend. Detectives believe this is an isolated incident and there appears to be no danger to the public at this time.”

The suspect, 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, was arrested for one count of murder with $2million bail set. A representative for the actor said: “With great sadness I can confirm that the gentleman who was attacked and killed on Wednesday in Tarzana was the actor James Handy.”

Beginning his career in 1977, Handy’s best known roles include Jimmy the bartender in Tom Cruise blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, a doctor in 2017 Marvel hit Logan, and an exterminator in the original 1995 version of Jumanji. On TV, he played representative Joe Bruno in political drama The West Wing, Arthur Devlin in the action series Alias, and Captain Jimmy Haverill in NYPD Blue. Top Gun: Maverick would be his final acting credit.

used to see it all the time, people with their pups in the backseat, head out the window, tongue flapping in the wind. now it seems like everyone’s either flying somewhere or staying home with their pets. i get it, travel’s expensive and complicated but... dont dogs deserve a vacation too? or is it just too much hassle with all the pet-friendly this and that rules everywhere. cant imagine leaving mine behind but then again i also cant imagine dealing with hotel fees and crate anxiety maybe im just nostalgic for simpler times idk.

'Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced woodkid sea shanty

A remake of the beloved Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag is set to launch next month, and it’ll feature a brand new take on hit sea shanty ‘Leave Her Johnny’ – check it out below:

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag featured a recording of classic sea shanty ‘Leave Her Jonny’ by Michel Schrey, Nils Brown and Sean Dagher. The track has been streamed more than 900million times on Spotify and is a firm fan-favourite.

However the upcoming Black Flag remake will feature a “resynced” version from French musician Woodkid. The track was used during a new trailer that was shared earlier tonight (June 5) as part of Summer Game Fest’s opening ceremony and will be available to stream from midnight.

It’s not the first time Woodkid has been involved with Assassin’s Creed. His debut solo single ‘Iron’ featured in the trailer for Assassin’s Creed 3: Revelations. “The world of Assassin’s Creed has been very important to me and is very linked to my career,” he said in a statement. “I know Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag is a major episode for the audience. It’s a game about escapism, rebellion, and exploration. These are themes that are very important for my work. I’m very excited about what we’ve done.”

“[The game’s] relentless pursuit of freedom is elevated by a track reinterpreted by Woodkid,” explains a press release. “Revisiting one of the classic and most streamed sea shanties from the original game’s soundtrack, Woodkid delivers a mysterious, dark, and epic version that reinvents the piece without betraying it, offering a fresh perspective on this iconic work. In addition to the trailer, the track will also be featured in the game.”

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced will launch July 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced is a faithful remake of one of the most beloved Assassin’s Creed games,” explained Edward Kenway’s actor Matt Ryan in a reveal trailer. “It’s totally rebuilt from the ground up and enriched with lots of new additions. The same story but elevated to a new level of realism and immersion – to bring you one of the most swashbuckling pirate adventures.”

Earlier this week it was confirmed that the original Black Flag soundtrack was getting a special vinyl release.

In other news, it’s been revealed that Michael Jackson spent time working on his own dark fantasy game with an original soundtrack.

John Barnes joined Peter Hook on stage in Manchester to perform his rap from New Order’s ‘World In Motion’ – watch below.

The former Joy Division and New Order bassist was playing at the Manchester Academy last night (June 4) to mark the 50th anniversary of the Sex Pistols’ legendary show in the city, and he welcomed England legend Barnes onto the stage for a rendition of the 1990 World Cup anthem.

Hook’s epic 35-track performance saw him take a chronological trip through his entire career, and Barnes joined him at the halfway point during the song that became inextricably linked to England’s run to the semi-finals of Italia ‘90, and also New Order’s only Number One single.

Barnes wrote and performed the rap himself back in 1990, with legend having it that he recorded it in a single take. Check out footage of the 2026 version here:

You've got to hold and give, but do it at the right time

Peter Hook & The Light at the Academy World In Motion drops…and out walks John Barnes to deliver that verse.

A moment only Manchester could produce.#Madchester #hooky

— Madchester (@madchester_mdcr) June 5, 2026

Earlier this week, Barnes revealed audio clips of Paul Gascoigne and Peter Beardsley attempting his rap, and said he battled five other players for the right to perform the rap on the song.

When ‘World In Motion’ was first released, NME asked Barnes how excited he was to be collaborating on a football song, to which he responded: “If I thought it was going to be the same as the usual crap, why bother? But this is alright.”

World Cup fever is ramping up, with the tournament beginning next Thursday (June 11) and England’s campaign starting against Croatia on June 17.

Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds have announced a 30th anniversary re-release of their own England anthem ‘Three Lions’, while Belle & Sebastian have penned a buoyant song for Scotland’s campaign, ‘It Only Takes One Lion’, with Stuart Murdoch telling NME, “you have to understand, it’s been 30 years since Scotland qualified so I think everybody and their dog has written a song for the team”.

Susan Boyle and Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos have teamed up for the Irn Bru World Cup ad, while an official FIFA World Cup soundtrack album has been announced, featuring The Rolling Stones, Shakira and Stormzy.

Reflecting on the gig last night, meanwhile, Hook wrote on Instagram that it was a “truly memorably show”, and thanked Rowetta and Buzzcocks for their appearances too.

Hook himself was in attendance at the Lesser Free Trade Hall in Manchester for the Sex Pistols’ historic show in 1976, and he famously went out and bought his first bass the following day, forming the band Warsaw, who went on to be known as Joy Division.

The show is credited with being a big bang event in British punk music and is also seen as kickstarting the Manchester music scene, with others in attendance including Hook’s future bandmate Bernard Sumner, as well as Morrissey, Mark E. Smith, Tony Wilson and John Cooper Clarke.

The Cure kicked off their 2026 tour — thier first in three years — at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound on Friday night. The severe weather that canceled many sets on Thursday, including Massive Attack’s, was gone and the the crowd was ready to party, gloomy-style, and The Cure brought the hits for their first performance since the special London shows for the release of 2024’s Songs of a Lost World.

The two-and-a-half-hour performance opened with “Alone” from Songs of a Lost World and the main set closed with “Endsong,” much like they had done for their 2022/2023 tour. In between it was a parade of classics, including “Pictures of You,” “High,” Lovesong,” “Fascination Street,” “In Between Days,” “Just Like Heaven,” “Push,” “A Forest,” and more.

The did dust a few songs off for Primavera including “Mint Car” which got its first play in 10 years, “alt.end,” which hadn’t been performed since 2018 and “2 Late” and “Wrong Number” which hadn’t been played since 2019.

The nine-song encore was all singles: with Lullaby,” “Hot Hot Hot!!!,” “Wrong Number,” “Let’s Go To Bed,” “The Lovecats,” “Friday I’m in Love,” “Close to Me,” Why Can’t I Be You?” and finally “Boys Don’t Cry” which had the whole of the Parc del Fòrum singing the guitar hook.

The whole set was also streamed live on Amazon Prime Video.

Check out The Cure’s Primavera setlist, and a few fan pics and videos from the show below.

Next stop on The Cure’s tour is Porto’s North Festival on June 7. All dates are listed below.

seriously, whats with names like "bassquaker" or "glitchflux"? its like they just smashed two vaguely tech-sounding words together and called it a day. dont get me wrong, some are cool, but others just scream "i used a generator." feels like no one even tries to check if it sounds dumb out loud ive seen a few threads lately about branding for new djs and this keeps coming up. like, if youre trying to stand out, at least pick something that doesnt sound like it belongs on a bad startup logo. or am i the only one who cringes at this stuff? also, quick tip for anyone picking a name: say it in a sentence. "youre listening to dj bassquaker" should not make you laugh.

Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder in Hacks

Hacks has come to an end with the finale of season five, but do Deborah and Ava reunite? Find out below.

The comedy-drama has been a critical and commercial success for HBO Max since it launched in 2021 and its fifth and final season concluded on May 28, bringing it to a final close.

It starred Jean Smart as Deborah Vance, a stand-up comedian, and Hannah Einbinder as Ava Daniels, her comedy writer, as they navigate the evolving dynamics of their professional partnership and personal lives within the contemporary comedy industry.

It was created by Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs and Jen Statsky and it co-starred the latter two in supporting roles, as well as the likes of Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Rose Abdoo and Mark Indelicato.

All five seasons of the show have been highly acclaimed, all scoring 98 per cent or higher on Rotten Tomatoes, and it has won five Golden Globes and nine Emmys.

Its fourth season landed in NME’s list of the best television shows of 2025, which noted: “Still the most scalpel-sharp comedy around with an undertow of pathos, highlights included Deborah running afoul of HR when offering her writers’ room drugs on a Las Vegas work retreat, the introduction of Julianne Nicolson’s cocaine-boofing TikTok star ‘Dance Mom’, and a sensational denouement that acts as a clever series redux.”

The ending of Hacks season five explained: do Deborah and Ava reunite?

Jean Smart’s Deborah has spent the fifth and final season frozen with fears of mortality and irrelevance, after false reports of her death.

At the start of the final episode, Ava is directing the pilot of the reboot of Deborah’s sitcom Who’s Making Dinner?, while Deborah reveals that her cancer has returned. Rather than undergo treatment, she decides to travel to Zurich for assisted suicide after one final holiday in Paris. Ava is devastated by this and begs her to reconsider, but Deborah carries on determined.

At a Paris train station, Ava prepares to board with Deborah, having accepted her decision. They begin to joke together about death and their connection makes Deborah realise that she still enjoys writing comedy material, and sparks her passion for performing live.

Instead of boarding the train, Deborah askes Ava to help her write one last stand-up special and Ava immediately agrees.

As the show climaxes, Deborah realises that what she truly values is not her legacy or her mortality, but the act of creation. She returns to Las Vegas and begins cancer treatment and resumes writing with Ava.
