Syd has announced new album ‘Beard’ and dropped the relaxed single ‘Callin’’. Check it out below alongside new UK and European tour dates.

The album will mark the third solo album from the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, producer, engineer, and co-founder of alt-R&B group The Internet. It is set for release on July 17 via Free Lunch/Warner, and available for pre-order here.

Co-produced by the singer and featuring collaborations from Raphael Saadiq, Big Sean, Rodney Jerkins and more, ‘Beard’ is a coming-of-age album from Syd, and follows her impact on the R&B genre, as well as her evolution as a songwriter.

Syd has dropped the first taster of the record in the form of tender new single ‘Callin’’, which features Blu June and is led by catchy melodies, unmistakable vocals, and sharp drum beats.

I’m callin’ 911 ’cause I need your love/And you ain’t pickin’ up/I’m comin’ for your love,” she sings in the ‘90s-tinged intro, building towards an effortlessly cool chorus: “I’m comin’ for your love/I’ve been drinkin’ and I’ve been smokin’/ And now I’m thinkin’ on how I want you”.

Discussing the album as a whole, Syd said: “‘Beard’ is a coming of age album for me. It’s a snapshot of what my life looks like right now.

“The title was inspired by the peach fuzz on my upper lip that society has always taught me to hate. I fell in love with my peach fuzz and it made me rethink everything that was supposed to make me feel insecure,” she added. “It allowed me to take my confidence into my own hands, and own everything that I am and everything I love about myself, regardless of what anyone else thinks.”

The singer continued: “The title also represents the way I see myself in relation to my peers, especially in music. ‘The bearded lady.’ Not so much a spectacle in my case, but an anomaly and an outlier. Hard to compare. I’m owning that too. Taking things that were once insecurities and flipping them on their head has been extremely empowering.”

To coincide with the album announcement, the former Odd Future star has also announced a new UK and European tour.

Dates kick off with a slot at Manchester’s Albert Hall on August 31, and continue with shows at the O2 Forum Kentish Town in London on September 1 and Glasgow’s SWG3 Galvanizers on September 3.

From there, Syd will play in Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and Copenhagen later that month. Tickets go on sale on Friday (June 5) at 10am local time. Visit here for tickets.

Syd also has a slot at All Points East lined up for August 28, and the shows follow on from her collaborating with artists like Zayn, Lil Uzi Vert, Kehlani, Disclosure, Beyonce and Kelly Rowland throughout her career.

Last year, Syd celebrated the 10th anniversary of The Internet’s breakthrough album ‘Ego Death’. She also shared solo singles, “Die For This” and “GMFU,” priming her for the upcoming record.

The singer also teamed up with Billie Eilish on her summer UK tour in 2025, and joined Renee Rapp for fall US dates.

In 2022, Syd spoke to NME about finding a newfound sense of confidence in her abilities after going solo, and explained how various moments in her left led to her uncovering things about herself and her songwriting style.

“It forced me to take a look at myself and ask questions,” she admits. “Questions like, ‘do I like who I am? Do I love who I am?’ Because whenever you get dumped, you naturally ask, ‘What the fuck is wrong with me?’ Because everything was good. So, it forced me to say, ‘…Is there anything wrong with me?’ And nope – there wasn’t.

“That was nice: to come to that realisation that I wouldn’t change anything about myself.”

That interview for The Cover also came as the R&B star dropped her second solo album, ‘Broken Hearts Club’ – which was given a four star review from NME and praised as one of her “strongest projects to date”.

“Like ‘Right Track’ and ‘CYBAH’, ‘Tie The Knot’ and ‘Fast Car’ are pop-infused sensations. On the latter, a slinky, ‘90s R&B piano riffs sit neatly alongside funky guitar solos, while the album glides towards the smoky sultriness of ‘Control’ and ‘No Way’,” it read. “The warmth of ‘Getting Late’ and the aforementioned Kehlani-featuring ‘Out Loud’ make for an intimate end to what is arguably Syd’s strongest project to date.”

“With ‘Broken Hearts Club’, Syd has crafted an album that elevates her to new heights – one that positions her as an exceptional, peerless talent,” it added.

noticed this trend lately where anything slightly chill gets called lofi even if it lacks the grainy warmth or tape hiss that defines the genre. like no, a slow piano track with reverb isnt automatically lofi just because its not a banger. feels like its more about marketing than the actual sound at this point. anyone else getting annoyed by this or is it just me being picky?

Staff at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. have started to remove all references to Donald Trump.

In December last year, the Trump-appointed board of the arts venue voted to rename the institution to the ‘Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts’, or the ‘Trump-Kennedy Center’ in short.

In May, however, a US district judge ruled that the board had no authority to make that change because the centre’s name is fixed by federal statute and can only be amended by Congress. He ordered all references to Trump’s name to be removed from the building and the official name to be restored to the Kennedy Center.

Trump reacted angrily to the order, writing on social media that he would be “working with Congress to transfer this failing institution back to them”, and added that the “radical left would rather see it DIE than have President Trump transform it into something that everyone could be proud of”.

NOW: A federal judge has ordered that Donald Trump’s name be removed from the Kennedy Center and that officials halt their plan to close the venue for two years.

“The Kennedy Center’s organic statute makes crystal clear that the Center is to be named for President Kennedy, and… pic.twitter.com/kWJAbn43dC

— Republicans against Trump (@RpsAgainstTrump) May 29, 2026

This week, a memo was sent to staff at the institution directing employees to stop using Trump’s name in reference to the Kennedy Center on any formal communications or press materials. A deadline of June 12 was set to update all physical and digital signage too, with the letters in Trump’s name being removed from the exterior of the building.

Also this week, the Trump administration’s lawsuit against a jazz musician who cancelled his annual Christmas concert at the Kennedy Center in the aftermath of the name change was dismissed.

The venue’s president Richard Grenell had strongly criticised Chuck Redd’s decision and demanded $1million in damages for what he described as a “political stunt”, but on Friday (June 5), a judge ruled in Redd’s favour, citing Anti-SLAPP laws that protect defendants against meritless lawsuits and “political retribution”.

Ben Folds also wrote an open letter this week to rally support for the National Symphony Orchestra, who are based at the Kennedy Center. Folds resigned as the NSO’s artistic advisor in the light of Trump’s takeover, but has now said the orchestra “doesn’t have the luxury of time” to get back on its feet.

A string of performers have also withdrawn from the Trump-linked Freedom 250 events at the Washington State Mall’s 250th anniversary of American independence celebrations, which are scheduled to start at the end of this month.

Milli Vanilli, The Commodores, Bret Michaels, Young MC, Martina McBride and Morris Day & The Time have all pulled out, with many choosing to distance themselves once its political associations became clear.

God of War Laufey PC Release: Laufey, Phranque, and Rue can be seen in Everywhen.

God of War Laufey was a surprise reveal at the State of Play in June 2026, and lots of discussions have broken out about the bold new direction for the franchise.

The last two games in the franchise have made their way to PC thanks to Sony releasing many of its recent releases on the platform. But, just a few months ago, it was reported that Sony is changing that strategy and going back to PS5 exclusives. So, is God of War Laufey affected? Here is what we know.

God of War Laufey is unlikely to come to PC. Sony is moving its single-player first-party game release strategy to an exclusive model for its consoles only. Therefore, it is unlikely we will see the game hit PC, at least not at release. Sony’s strategy could change, especially as their games aren’t selling as well on PS5 as they have previously, but don’t expect God of War Laufey on the platform when it releases.

“Death was supposed to be the end, but for Laufey (Faye), warrior and wife to Kratos, a new adventure is just beginning. Awakening unexpectedly in a strange land after her death, Faye discovers the plans she put in place to protect Kratos and Atreus in her absence are now at risk.

To save the ones she loves, Faye must fight through the afterlife of the gods – the Everywhen – where ruthless gods from across mythology vie for power in a land overflowing with dangerous magic. Harness Faye’s speed, control, and relentlessness to overwhelm even the fiercest of foes with decisive, deadly precision.”

For even more on God of War Laufey, stay tuned to NME for more updates and news.

The Black Crowes

The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson has spoken out about the controversy caused by recent comments made onstage at Tampa’s MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre.

The band performed at the Florida venue on May 31 as part of their ongoing ‘Southern Hospitality tour’, and after a section of the crowd broke into chants of “U-S-A!”, Robinson hit out at the crowd.

According to TMZ, a visual of the Black Crow mascot dressed as Uncle Sam was displayed on the screen behind them. Before launching into ‘She Talks To Angels’, the frontman stopped for a moment to talk to the crowd. “Thanks for the geography lesson,” he said, before adding: “I don’t know what you have to be so proud of right now.”

From there, some concertgoers were heard booing him, while some others seemingly chose to leave after his comments. “For those of you fucking booing us, some of us are not afraid. And we most assuredly are not fucking ignorant.”

Now, he’s shed light on the incident while speaking to Ultimate Classic Rock. “I think the whole thing was, of course, blown out of context so people can get clicks and people can stir up the animosity,” he said.

🚨
EXCLUSIVE: The fallout from The Black Crowes' onstage political dust-up on Sunday didn't end with boos … it kept rolling straight toward the exits. pic.twitter.com/PSFZy9iMi4

— TMZ (@TMZ) June 2, 2026

“But be most assured – in a week, something else will come up that stirs up the hornets’ nest.” He also cleared up another misconception about his comments, clarifying: “No matter what I ever would say or do or feel about things, there’s no way I would disrespect our veterans.

“For the people who’ve put their lives on the line and made that sacrifice and dedication, I wouldn’t do that. But I have to speak my mind. I don’t have an agenda or anything — I’m just trying to make a soulful connection with people.”

Robinson isn’t usually one to use his platform to make many political statements, although Variety highlights that he did make a subtle swipe at President Donald Trump in 2017, sharing that he was not too pleased that “Donald Trump is president, John Mayer is in The Grateful Dead, and my brother’s in a Black Crowes tribute band.”

The Black Crowes were nominated to be inducted into the 2026 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame recently, although they didn’t make the cut.

Others who didn’t make the list from the 17 nominations included New Edition, Mariah Carey, Ms Lauryn Hill, INXS, P!nk, Jeff Buckley and Shakira, but those who will join the Rock Hall this year include Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis, Sade, Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan.

The Atlanta rock band will be performing at the 10th anniversary edition of Madrid’s Mad Cool later this summer, and that festival will see headline slots from Pulp, Foo Fighters, Florence & The Machine, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

Jessie J has announced she is cancer-free, saying she “exhaled for the first time in a year” after receiving the news.

The singer revealed in June last year that she had been diagnosed with early breast cancer and she successfully underwent surgery shortly afterwards. Three months later, however, she cancelled a tour as she was scheduled for a further surgical procedure.

Last month, she posted a video on Instagram that showed her going for her annual health checkup after a breast MRI, and she captioned the post with the jubilant news: “RESULTS ARE IN AND I AM CANCER FREE!!”

“I sobbed for hours and then exhaled for the first time in a year,” she added.

Jessie also brought the positive energy to her return to the Chinese singing competition Singer, the show that she won back in 2018. The hugely popular series is watched by over 100million viewers and Jessie gave passionate performances of Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’ and her own song ‘California’, from her recent album ‘Don’t Tease Me With A Good Time’.

Watch those performances here:

At the end of last year, Jessie shared a personal and emotional reflection on her challenging 2025, describing it as “one of the hardest but most magical years”.

“This year has been heavy and hard in many ways for all of us, for me personally one of the hardest but most magical years of my life,” she said at the time. “Personally and professionally. But all the sadness has come up this week, it’s the first time I’ve stopped (working and being in public in months) So I’m crying a lot. Writing shit down feeling really low tbh. The lowest I have felt in a while.”

Last September, Jessie made an emotional return to the stage alongside her two-year-old son at BBC Radio 2 in the Park, just 11 weeks after undergoing surgery. “I’m still very much in the recovery process,” she said at the time. “But I’m just so grateful to be here.”

Her sixth studio album ‘Don’t Tease Me With A Good Time’ was released in November, including the singles ‘No Secrets’, ‘Living My Best Life’, ‘H.A.P.P.Y.’ and ‘I’l Never Know Why’.

She also played at the Mighty Hoopla in London last month, and is set to take the stage at Victorious Festival in Portsmouth later this summer.

Emma Ruth Rundle has announced her sixth album, These Killing Times, which will be out September 18 via her own Errant Child label. She made it with a full band and contributors include Marissa Nadler, regular collaborator Troy Zeigler, Jess Gowrie (Chelsea Wolfe, Mrs. Piss), Patrick Shiroishi, Nick Reinhart (Tera Melos), Gina Gleason (Baroness), Lukas Frank (Storefront Church) and Amelia Baker (Cinder Well).

The first single is “Powerless,” which opens the album and vacillates between gentle piano to raging rock. “This song was initially titled ‘Noam Chomsky is Dead to Me’ – as his relationship to Epstein and the billionaire class was being exposed – just another massively disappointing headline in a time where we are incessantly confronted with an onslaught of news and headlines which are endlessly demoralizing and dehumanizing,” Rundle says.

She continues: “This song – like most of the songs on These Killing Times – is a reaction to the horrors we are seeing laid bare on a daily basis – the clear and painful reality of the myriad injustices levied upon the working class people of earth – from climate collapse to genocide to the miscarriage of justice on a scale- the likes of which we have not seen in our lifetimes- the collapse of empire, the demise of democracy, the erosion of women’s rights and LGBTQIA+ rights and black rights, the attempt to dehumanize immigrants and people of color, the concentration camps in the USA – the list is so long I don’t think I can accurately cover it all here. With ‘Powerless’ – I invoke the hammer; both to destroy and to build – something better. I want people to know they are not alone – they are not insane – I wanted to name the thing that has been causing me so much mental, emotional and spiritual anguish. Sometimes singing – especially repeating phases – can work to fortify one’s self and I think that’s where the bridge of ‘Powerless’ comes in – I refuse to let my agency and resolve become corrupted or diluted by the powers that be and I want others to feel empowered too.”

You can watch the video below.

Emma Ruth Rundle will be on tour this fall with All Them Witches and dates include Asbury Park, NJ’s The Stone Pony on October 17.

Pixies have announced reissues for their albums ‘Bossanova’ and ‘Trompe Le Monde’, with unreleased new tracks.

The Boston indie legends are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, and have already announced a reissue for their ‘Complete B-Sides: 1988-97′ compilation album, which will be out on June 26 and can be pre-ordered here.

The band are currently on a UK and European tour this summer, details of which you can find below, and now they have confirmed that their third and fourth albums will be getting the full reissue treatment too.

1990’s ’Bossanova’ and 1991’s ‘Trompe Le Monde’ have been remastered by Kevin Vanbergen, who has been working through the band’s tape archive to create new Dolby Atmos mixes and high-resolution masters.

For the first time, four new tracks will be released – ‘Go Man Go’, ‘Brackish Boy’, ‘Punk Loop’ and an alternate version of ‘Dig For Fire’ recorded by Steve Albini in late 1987 during the sessions for ‘Surfer Rosa’.

pixies_albums.jpg

pixies_albums_two.jpg

‘Go Man Go’ was written by Black Francis and Kim Deal and was recorded in the sessions for both ‘Bossanova’ and The Breeders’ ‘Last Splash’ but did not make the cut for either, while ‘Brackish Boy’ was later included on Frank Black’s eponymous debut solo album. ‘Punk Loop’ emerged from the 1991 ‘Trompe Le Monde’ sessions.

The reissues will be available on CD, digital and standard black vinyl formats, as well as a limited-edition oxblood vinyl package for ‘Bossanova’, with a 16-page, 10” replica of the original UK booklet, and a sky blue vinyl for ‘Trompe Le Monde’. Both will come with 7” singles containing the bonus tracks. Pre-order each format here.

Pixies’ UK and European headline tour is already underway, with dates still to come in Germany, Italy, Netherlands and more. See all of the dates here and find any remaining tickets here.

Later this month, they will play a huge UK outdoor gig at On The Mount at Wasing, while festival dates include a headlining slot at Bearded Theory, an appearance at NOS Alive in Portugal, and a spot at the 10th anniversary edition of Mad Cool in Madrid. Find tickets here.

Their ninth and latest studio album, ‘The Night The Zombies Came’, was released in 2024. Speaking to NME around that time, the group discussed the possibility of performing more of their classic albums in full on tour after doing so with ‘Trompe le Monde’ and ‘Bossanova’.

“As a fan, I love those things,” said Joey Santiago. “We went to ‘Aja’, the Steely Dan show. It’s incredible knowing that it’s going to be all of ‘Aja’ and right behind me were all the drummers – Danny [Carey] from Tool, Josh Freese, Pat Wilson were all behind me watching it.

“I’m just saying Steely Dan’s cool…The only thing about doing it in order is that Charles and I have to switch guitars. So there’s a lot of that going on, so it disrupts the show a little bit. But we like doing it.”

Underscores (2025), photo by Alexa Viscius

Underscores has hit out at Houston venue Meow Wolf hours before a gig there, describing them as “misogynistic”.

The hyperpop musician and former NME Cover star, real name April Harper Grey, is currently on the road in the US in support of her third studio album ‘U’, which was released in March.

On Saturday night, the tour arrived in Houston for a show at Meow Wolf, but before the show, she took to her Instagram Stories to explain to fans that she would not be able to bring her normal level of production to the venue for reasons that she said we beyond her control.

“Full disclosure,” she wrote. “We won’t have full production tonight as the venue can’t accommodate it. They’ve honestly been very difficult to work with and have either been rude, misogynistic to my team or just don’t know what’s going on.”

View this post on Instagram

“Still doing the show as planned but wanted to apologise in advance,” she continued. “I’ll make sure to come back to Houston next time with full production.”

In a later post, she clarified that the “general venue staff” had been “very nice” and “accommodating” to her, and said the problems had been coming from “upper management”.

NME has contacted Meow Wolf for comment.

Underscores is also coming to the UK and Europe later this year, with shows in Dublin, Glasgow, Leeds, London and Manchester in November. Find the full list of dates here and find any remaining tickets here.

Underscores spoke to NME’s Alex Rigotti in March, discussing how the fascination with fame expressed in her music led to self-monitoring own life. “I’ve always scrutinised myself like I was famous,” she said. “I’ve always been like, ‘someone’s gonna pick my life apart to pieces someday, so I need to prepare for that’. But obviously some of that is some mental shit.”

‘U’ received a five-star review from NME, with writer Otis Robinson concluding: “More Black Mirror than Twin Peaks, ‘U’ is an intimate hyperpop record portraying snowballing isolation, a digital-age pop star’s yearning under the limelight of the techno-infused Anthropocene.”

ok so i was listening to the radio earlier and heard like three songs in a row that mentioned time or watches and it got me thinking... why is time such a big theme in music? like sure its universal and all but its not like anyone is actually listening to the lyrics about it right? or maybe they are and im just not paying attention. anyway i feel like analog watches get a bad rep in modern stuff cause everyone assumes youre either a hipster or old if you wear one but honestly theyre just better like sure your phone tells time too but its not the same vibe. also it feels weird that so many songs lean on metaphors about time running out or ticking clocks when half the time (ha) its just filler lyrics. ngl idk maybe im overthinking it but next time you hear a song about time just think about how many people are actually wearing a watch while they listen probably not many...
