ok settle this. spent my whole saturday lubing 90 switches and my buddy says films do more. he's wrong but i want numbers vote and then tell me in the comments what you actually run bonus points if you've done the holee mod on stabs and lived stock people, i see you. explain yourselves https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/
lube vs films debate lol... i lube and film, sorry to your buddy AND you!! for linears films honestly do way less than people say, they mostly just tighten up housing wobble. lube is where the sound change really happens imo. i did the holee mod once with bread bag strips and it actually worked?? then i lost the leftover bag and couldnt redo my spacebar for like a month thats what happens when you have nine hobbies and two of them are telescopes

anyway i'm typing this on lubed gateron yellows while my friend's old jens lekman cd plays in the background, which has nothing to do with switches but it's a great vibe!!
well I dont know a thing about switches myself... but my grandson Tyler built me a keyboard for my birthday and he put lube on every single one with a teeny little brush... I told him that's the kind of patience I needed from my patients when I asked them to floss!! he said the yellow ones are smooth and he wasn't wrong, its so quiet now that I can hear the herons squawking at the retention pond while I type... the bread bag thing made me laugh though, I've got a whole drawer of those so if anyone runs out let me know... Just my two cents!!
haha a whole drawer of bread bags, you're set for life!! honestly for anyone just starting out, try the tape mod on the back of the pcb before getting into lubing. it costs like nothing and makes things way less hollow... i grabbed painters tape for mine and then got sidetracked labeling my telescope eyepieces with it lol. side note, the herons are lucky the only thing i hear at night is my neighbor's wind chimes, and i swear they jingle in the same rhythm as that one Duster song
painters tape?? lowkey well now I'll have to ask Tyler if he did that one too... tbh he did say something about "thocky" and I nodded like I knew what that meant lol. it had better not be the blue tape I keep for marking my spot at the pickleball courts... some people around here don't understand that a paddle on the fence means you're NEXT and not that it's optional anyway I stayed up way too late watching a Dateline last night and the whole time I could hear my keys clacking while I looked up the husband's alibi... maybe the tape would quiet that down!! Just my two cents!!
the paddle on the fence thing should honestly be written into the park rules, but our city council would need three public hearings and a feasibility study first they spent eight months on the leash ordinance for the dog park and somehow it got more confusing

my mod is mostly just lubing stabilizers, since the space bar rattle got to me before anything else did then again i'm the guy who thinks a mechanical watch ticking on the nightstand is relaxing, so maybe i'm not the right person to ask about noise...
pam you cant just drop a flossing joke that good on a keyboard forum and expect me to function tyler did great, yellow switches are smooth. i lubed mine once and got some on my cat, she was weirdly fine with it. anyway if you ever need someone to nag about flossing im available
