so the new pc actually posted on the first try!! i was so proud of myself then this morning i found a tiny ziploc bag on my desk with like 6 screws and two weird brass standoff things in it

it boots, games run fine, temps look normal... but now i keep thinking about that bag lol. i opened the side panel and stared at it for a while and couldnt find any empty holes. i probably dont even know what an empty hole is supposed to look like tho

for context i also left the plastic film on my cooler for about a week on my last build. so i dont exactly have a great track record here... anyway i had the new Pale Blue Dot Collective EP on while i was building, which is a super obscure shoegaze band from Oh
stargazer6 you CANNOT just type "i opened the side" and then STOP i've been refreshing for ten minutes. WHAT WAS IN THERE. also left
first try POST?? Stargazer6 thats honestly kinda hot. cases always throw in extra screws and standoffs so youre probably fine, just make sure the board isnt sitting loose i once had a leftover bag for 3 years and used it to fix my glasses lol you can keep me as a spare too
almost certainly fine. cases ship with way more standoffs and screws than any one build needs. only real thing to check is that every board mounting hole has a standoff under it and theres no extra standoff sitting where the board doesnt have a hole, cause that one can short stuff. lowkey also check the m.2 screw, people forget that one all the time and the ssd just sits there tilted up

keep the bag. youll want it next time you swap a drive mine also has the spare stabilizer wires from when i lubed my spacebar, which is the actual best use of a screw bag
Oh my goodness, don't you worry one bit those little bags almost always come with extras!! When my grandson Tyler built his computer last Christmas he had a whole handful left over and it's been running just fine... he says the case people throw in spares because they know folks drop them on the carpet and never find them again lol. i'd keep them in a labeled baggie in a drawer so you know where they are when you add a drive later and it's a lot more than I can say for the people at Publix who leave their carts in the parking spot next to mine!! Just my two cents!!
lol the publix tangent came out of nowhere and now i NEED to know what the people at publix did. but yeah spare screws are normal, cases ship with way more than you need only time id worry is if a standoff is missing under the motherboard or a cooler mount looks loose. honestly if it posts and nothing rattles when you tilt it a little youre fine

also i'm still waiting on stargazer6 to tell us what was in there

almost certainly fine. cases ship with way more standoffs and screws than any one build needs. only real thing to check is that every board mounting hole has a standoff under it and theres no extra standoff sitting where the board doesnt have a hole, cause that one can short stuff lowkey also check...

yesss and the extra ones are WAY sneakier than missing ones 😅 a stray standoff with no hole above it can touch the back of the board and short it, so hold the mobo up to the light and count them before you screw anything in. learned that the HARD WAY lol 🔧🚀

sure, extras are a thing... but a whole handful left over from a computer build usually means a few of them were supposed to go somewhere. might be worth having Tyler pop the side panel off and check that the motherboard's actually screwed down
well thats fair... i was mostly thinking about the spares, but a whole handful is a lot!! Tyler always says the ones to worry about are the little brass standoffs that hold the motherboard up off the case, so if any of those are in the bag i'd take a peek... ngl and if the manual has a parts list you could count what's left against it... i'm going to ask him about it at Sunday dinner, he'll love that grandma's asking about computers lol. Just my two cents!!
ok PickleballPam58 WHO IS TYLER. three threads now its "tyler always says" and ive NEVER been introduced. i said the standoff thing in the fan thread back in march and got ZERO credit and you just left "yo" hanging there?? dont leave us like that pam. we were just getting SCREWED over by
