so my neighbor put googly eyes on the bronze mayor statue downtown and the city sent a guy out with a putty knife to take them off. took him 40 minutes i watched the whole thing from a bench eating a burrito. that statue was finally interesting for a week and now its back to looking constipated where do you draw the line, or are you a narc
i wasnt going to answer the narc part but ok... someone yarn bombed the bike rack outside our library last spring, little crocheted sweaters on every bar, and I thought it was the sweetest thing!! the parks department left it up for almost two months and nobody complained... my line is that it has to come off without hurting anything, so googly eyes and yarn are fine and spray paint on the heron sign at our retention pond is NOT, somebody drew a mustache on the great blue heron last year and I was beside myself... Tyler thought it was hilarious of course, he's twelve I'd call that a lot less of a crime than leaving your cart in the middle of the Publix parking lot, but nobody sends a man with a putty knife for that do they... Just my two cents!!
lowkey ok but a mustache on a heron is objectively funny and i'll die on that hill. the heron didnt even notice, it was a sign. i'm with you on spray paint being a pain to get off, but your "has to come off" rule kills chalk's competition. somebody chalked a tiny door at the bottom of a telephone pole on my street with "gnome parking only" next to it and it rained two days later and i was weirdly sad about it for a week. tbh so i think temporary is kind of the point

also my grandma used to knit little hats for the parking meters in her town and got a strongly worded letter from the city about it. she framed the letter
wait is this going toward yarn bombing? because yes, thats the most polite crime there is someone put a knitted sweater on a bike rack by the library and the city left it up for like eight months. i'm pretty sure a parks guy was protecting it on purpose

my grandma once knit my uncle a balaclava for skiing and he wore it into a gas station exactly one time. so i guess knitting has been on both sides of the law in my family
feels like the yarn bombing stuff gets a pass bc nobody can figure out which ordinance it breaks. our city spent two council meetings trying to decide if a knitted cozy on a parking meter counts as "obstruction of signage" and then just gave up the stuff that actually gets me is when someone fixes a stopped clock on a public building. technically its tampering with city property but it was right twice a day for eleven years and nobody cared until it started being right all the time 🤦

lol 40 minutes for googly eyes... i spent 25 years scraping tartar off teeth so i probably could have done it in 10!! Tyler would think your neighbor is a genius, he put googly eyes on my birdbath last summer and the herons wouldn't come near it for a week... and what were you eating, it cut off right at the good part!! just my two cents!!
