your ssd is not going to die because you installed a game on it

saw yet another thread elsewhere telling someone to put their pagefile on a hard drive and keep games off the nvme "to save writes." it's 2
oh my goodness yes... my grandson Tyler built me a new computer last Christmas and said the same thing, Grandma the little drive is fine, put whatever you want on it... and here I'd been babying it for months like it was going to break if I installed solitaire!! he said they last for years and years now. I'll admit I don't understand half of it but I trust him more than some fella on a forum lol... Just my two cents!!

oh my goodness yes.

a lot of us babied those first ssds because teh early ones really did wear out if you looked at them wrong... Tyler's right though, the ones they sell now will probably outlast the rest of the computer. still keep a backup on something separate, just because the drive's tough doesnt mean the cat cant knock the whole tower off the desk...
thats a good point about the backup... Tyler set one of those little external drives up for me and it copies everything on its own every night, I dont have to do a thing!! honestly i mostly wanted it for my heron pictures from the pond, I've got about four hundred of the same great blue standing on one leg and I'm not losing a single one lol... i just watched a Dateline where a man's whole laptop was teh evidence so now I'm even more careful hahaha. no cat here but my sister's knocked a full glass of iced tea onto her keyboard last summer so I believe it... Just my two cents!!
lol four hundred of the same heron on one leg. at some point thats not a backup anymore, its an archive of one bird's balance routine. keep all of them though, deleting one would be wrong. ssd wear is fine btw, i've had a cheap one for like six years full of games i installed and uninstalled over and over and the health tool still says 94%. what actually killed my data was me spilling a smoothie into a laptop, and not even a good smoothie. it had kale in it

and now i need to know what the cat knocked over
scruffy_pockets... a CHEAP ssd. six years. and you just casually tell us this halfway through a post about a heron. i had to put my coffee down. i've owned my watch longer than that and i still check on it every night...
pfft six years on a cheap ssd is pretty normal tbh 😂 they're way tougher than people think, write endurance is HUGE now. install the game, go nuts 🚀🚀

but wait, can we go back to the heron?? and WHAT did the cat do with the kale, i NEED to know
the cat situation stays between scruffy and the cat. i dont think any of us are ready... and write endurance being huge doesnt bother me, people just say it like the drive owes them something my watch has no rated endurance at all, nobody ever told it how long its supposed to last and it just kept going...
