bought a DJ controller in june and i think it's just a very expensive coaster now...

so i got one of those cheap beginner controllers this summer because i was SO sure this was gonna be my new thing!! i watched like four tutorials, learned to beatmatch exactly once (by accident i think) and then... my telescope came back from repair and i forgot the controller existed lol

found it this morning under a pile of star charts and a bag of yarn from my knitting era. there's a little layer of dust on the jog wheels... anyway it's october and i want to actually try again!! ngl did anyone else start DJing as a total beginner and stick with it?? what got you past the "i have no idea what any of these kn

beatmatching by accident once is still more than most people who own those things mine's been a very expensive coaster since 2019 and my cat sleeps on the jog wheels, so at least somebody's getting use out of it

my grandson Tyler got one of those for his birthday last year and now its mostly a charging station for his phone ngl i think he did learn one song all the way through, but it was for a school dance and he hasnt touched it since lol... my advice would be to set it up right next to the tv so you see it every day, mine would end up in a closet otherwise!! and the cat on the jog wheels made me laugh, our neighbor's cat sleeps on the hood of my car every night so i guess they all go for whatever's warm and expensive Just my two cents!!

lol the tv tip is smart but mine would just end up holding up a stack of library books i forgot to return i did plug mine back in last night though!! put on some old Broadcast records and just messed with the filter knob for like an hour, didnt even try to mix it was weirdly relaxing?? might be the trick, just play with the knobs and forget about beatmatching for now

also unrelated but Saturn's rings are almost edge on from here right now so theyre super thin in a telescope... ok i'm getting distracted again lol

lol scruffy_pockets you've had a coaster since 2019 and you're out here handing out beatmatching advice? bold. also your post cuts off at "an" so i'm guessing the controller ate the rest of it. at least mine's a keyboard with lubed switches, and that one actually gets used

well must be nice datawrangler92... lubed switches AND you actually use it?? rub it in why dont you my grandson Tyler has one of those clicky keyboards and wont let me touch it, meanwhile im typing this on a library desktop with a sticky spacebar Just my two cents!!

lol PickleballPam the sticky library spacebar is a whole struggle of its own!! tell Tyler grandma needs keyboard time too... quick update on my coaster situation i went to mess with the filter knob again tonight and realized i'd left the usb cable at my sister's place. so its officially a coaster again lol i swear i've got a drawer with like four of those cables in it but i also have a telescope, a half-finished cross stitch AND a sourdough starter i keep forgetting to feed, so who knows where that drawer even is anymore... oh fun thing though, the Draconids peak around october 8th! they're usually pretty quiet but every once in a while they go totally nuts. if i find the cable by then i'm thinking about bringing the laptop outside and messing around with some Stereolab while i watch for meteors!! probably gonna forget the blanket and freeze tho

the sourdough starter is the real problem here. lowkey that thing is alive and it's judging you. i let mine die in 2021 and still feel weirdly guilty when i walk past the bread aisle
