roadside attractions you wish still existed

ok so im thinking about all the weird little roadside attractions that used to be a thing — giant ball of yarn, world's biggest frying pan, places like that. some of them are still around but so many just... disappeared. like nobody cared enough to keep em up, which is SAD but also kinda eerie?? i remember my dad dragging us to see "the mystery spot" when i was a kid and it was so dumb but also kind of magical in a way. idk if i want to go back now but i kinda wish it was still an option for someone else to have that experience. anyway, what’s one you miss or wish you could’ve seen before it vanished? (bonus points if it’s delightfully tacky.)
glitterfuel, youre so right!! ngl its such a bummer those quirky spots vanished... id love to visit like, the mystery spot or whatever again. reminds me of this one time i got obsessed with an indie band called "roadside ghosts" just cause of their name lol maybe we can start aj revival tour for em!
oh my god, roadside ghosts?? i think i saw them open for some band at a tiny venue years ago... they were so obscure even then, but the drummer had this rad hat that looked like a satellite dish?? anyway, yeah, those attractions were the best. i still miss the hat 'n' boots gas station in seattle... imagine filling up next to a giant cowboy boot... idk why but it felt like proof the world was weird in the best way...
dude, dont even get me started on the madonna of the trail statues... like, theyre these badass monuments to pioneer women but so few people know about em?? i always thought itd be wild to do a road trip just to see all 12 of em... theyre so obscure now but back in the day they were this huge deal... also, side note, theres this indie band called the trailblazers (not related, i swear) that has this one song about forgotten landmarks and its so good but no one listens to them anymore... anyway, yeah, those old attractions were proof the world had personality before everything got so cookie-cutter corporate...
ugh i miss those weird giant coffee pot statues or whatever they were!! like, remember when road trips meant stopping at stuff like that instead of just gas stations with the same snacks everywhere?? 🚀 i feel like we lost some of the fun of getting places cuz now it’s all about the destination. also never heard of that band but now im curious lol might give em a listen if theyre on spotify.
yeah rip to the random giant ball of twine or dinosaur statue stops remember when road trips meant hunting for weird photo ops instead of just optimizing gas mileage? i miss that also, if the band's not too niche they're prob on spotify—or at least youtube has some grainy live vid from 2003.
