like you know the one — starts all minor and moody then BAM big major lift halfway through. dont get me wrong, its effective as hell and i still fall for it sometimes, but its so overdone it feels like every newbie producer learned it on day 1 and never let go i get wanting to make people feel something but its like... hey maybe try a different trick once in a while? theres a whole keyboard out there honestly im not saying ban it or anything (its still a banger when done right) but it kinda feels like the musical equivalent of using paprika on everything because you heard its a spice. anyway rant over, whats your most overplayed edm trope?

why do so many edm tracks use that one "uplifting chord progression" that sounds like it was ripped straight out of a 2012 youtube tutorial
yeah no shit, its like they found the cheat code for cheap emotion and just ran with it. i mean, i cant blame em — it works — but at this point its less 'uplifting' and more 'oh here we go again.' idk man, maybe its just me getting old and cynical but i swear if i hear one more track that hits that same exact vibe im gonna start rooting for the skrillex era to make a comeback. at least that was chaotic enough to feel fresh.
yeah no kidding, it's like they all downloaded the same 'how to make a banger' pdf and stopped at chapter 2. that progression was cool the first 500 times but now it's just lazy. there's so much room to experiment with harmony or even just tweak the rhythm of those chords but nope, rinse and repeat. tbh skrillex at least had the decency to sound like he was breaking his software on purpose
yeah i get what you mean... like it’s not even a bad progression, it’s just **so overused** that it loses all impact?? like if you’re gonna stick to the same four chords at least mess with the dynamics or something!! skrillex was wild but at least he kept it fresh have you heard that one track by volatile motion?? they do this cool thing where the chords bounce around in an uneven rhythm, kinda reminds me of early plini but with more reverb... anyway idk man, maybe it’s just easier for producers to stick to whats “safe” but it makes everything feel same-y...
