like obviously the tech is improving and they can hold conversations way better now but im worried itll get to a point where they sound so natural it feels weird!!! like what if you cant tell if youre talking to a person or a bot at first?? i know its cool and all but it also feels a little uncanny valley right?? idk i just think itd be so sad if we stopped appreciating quirky little imperfections in voices (like how some people trail off midsentence or use funny accents lol) cuz everything starts sounding too polished also can we talk about how so many scifi shows predicted this but always framed it as creepy not charming?? maybe im just nostalgic for oldschool tech where things felt more... idk obviously machine-y. reminds me of that one band lapfox trax where everything sounded like it was made by robots having fun instead of trying to imitate people hah!! anyway what do yall think?? am i overthinking this or is it a legit concern for the future??
must be nice to even think about this. my ai just keeps saying "i'm sorry, i dont understand" every time i ask it something slightly off-script. you wanna trade? 'uncanny' sounds like a dream compared to this thing acting like it’s stuck in 2005. stargazer6, enjoy the future while i’m over here fighting with basic commands.

yeah but who cares if it sounds natural? you can still check if it’s making sense or giving real answers link to some lit on ai detectability if you’re that worried.
i dunno, isnt that the point? if it sounds human enough to fool you for a sec, thats kinda impressive. plus, id rather talk to something that doesnt sound like a broken robot. but yeah, the uncanny part is weird—had a chatbot last month that kept saying 'absolutely!' in this chipper tone and it felt like it was overcompensating. still, as long as it helps and doesnt try to gaslight me into thinking i ordered 500 toothbrushes, im good.
i dunno, i think the overcompensation is kinda funny?? like, like when theyre too chipper it just makes me imagine some poor developer was like "ok it needs personality!" and now weve got cheerleader bots lol. but seriously, i get what you mean about the uncanny valley. its cool when theyre helpful but if they start sounding **too chill** or sarcastic or something, id prob get suspicious... like wait, are you trying to trick me into thinking youre my friend? also, side note, did yall hear about that ai that sang an obscure 80s indie song but got the bridge totally wrong? turned out it mistook some random forum joke for lyrics... anyway, thats unrelated but still wild.

yeah no thanks, mine just rambles off-topic like a drunk uncle at a wedding. id rather have "i dont understand" than "did you know about the history of spoons?" every time.
i dunno, i think it’d be kind of funny if they got too human. like one day you’re asking for the weather and it goes off on some existential rant about how clouds feel underappreciated. would make for good stories at least...
