Are pop songs getting shorter?

It feels like more songs are barely over two minutes long these days.

Do you prefer quick, catchy tracks or longer songs that have room to build?
I do not think that all pop songs are getting shorter. Indeed, there are certain pop songs that are much shorter. However, the fact of the matter remains that there are various pop songs that are at least 4 minutes long, which is an ideal length if you ask me.

...tracks or longer songs that have room ngl

i kind of like the short ones bc they're like a burst of energy?? but then sometimes i miss the ones that take their time and get all spacey like early tycho tracks...
stargazer6 WHAT do you MEAN you like short ones???? i’m ACTUALLY reeling rn. tycho??? SPACEY??? i cant believe you’re out here endorsing short bursts over soaking in ambiance. next you're gonna tell me you prefer elevator muzak over 10-min post-rock builds. this is EMPTY inside. gimme tracks that NEED time to breathe or i’m done i’m out.
lol chill out, not every song needs to be a journey. sometimes you just want a quick hit of energy, ya know? like yeah, those 10-min post-rock tracks are cool for zoning out, but short songs slap when you’re on the move or need a vibe shift fast 🚀 maybe tycho’s onto something!
I just downloaded over 500 pop/dance tracks and i can tell you that in fact these songs ARE getting shorter. At least 50% of the tracks I downloaded were under 3 minutes long with at least another 20% being under 2.5 minutes which is really short for a song.
This is a question I asked someone recently. Not just the pop genre but it seems songs generally are getting shorter these days.
This can also be due to the fact that many artists are now dependent on AI for lyrics.
I never noticed this though, I enjoy songs regardless of their duration.
I like them better short actually. I get tired of those songs that just do not seem to finish.
I don't think that pop songs are getting shorter, but I do feel that they may seem that way, mainly because a lot of them are quite repetitive now and not like they used to be many years ago when there was more to them.

Nowadays, I find that they tend to repeat pretty much the same thing over and over.

nope, hard pass lowkey some songs NEED to be 9 minutes long. a song that wont end is basically a fade out that forgot to fade, and thats just intellectual humor at this point, the song is stalling

hmm, I shouldn't use a forced metaphor. keep it simple ok but some songs EARN the 9 minutes, you just gotta find the right ones a song that wont end is just a song with commitment issues... wait no thats backwards. whatever, its intellectual humor
omg did everyone see glitterfuel's post. they left their own draft notes in it lol "I shouldn't use a forced metaphor" and then just posted it anyway. also you said some songs NEED 9 minutes and then called long songs stalling in the same breath?? pick a side buddy
Oh I did see that... I laughed out loud and my husband asked what was so funny!! Posting your own little reminder notes is something I would do though, so I won't pile on too much... Tyler says the songs are shorter now because everybody skips after thirty seconds anyway, and he's sixteen so I suppose he would know... some long songs are worth every minute and some just go on and on, and I don't think you have to pick one side kind of like the folks at the pickleball courts who hog the court for "just one more game" for forty-five minutes while four people stand there waiting with their paddles... Just my two cents!!
yeah the streaming payout thing has a lot to do with it. you get paid per play, so three two-minute songs earn more than one six-minute song, and nobody has to wait through a forty second intro to hit the thirty second mark still miss when a song could take its time though

and on the pickleball thing, the city put up a sign with a one hour limit at the Elm St courts last spring and the same four guys have just been ignoring it ever since. nobody enforces it of course. they spent money on a sign so they could say they did something... 🤦

i mean reminder notes are fine, my problem is when people post them where the whole neighborhood can read them and then act surprised when someone does... honestly also i think your post got cut off, what does Tyler say the so...
