every "how to write for the web" guide still opens with the goldfish attention span stat

third one this week. "humans now have an 8 second attention span, less than a goldfish (9)". so keep your posts short!! that number comes from a 2015

oh the goldfish thing... that Microsoft Canada report got it from some website called Statistic Brain and nobody's ever found where they got it either the BBC looked into it years ago and came up with nothing!! and goldfish can actually be trained to remember things for months, so the poor fish is getting a bad rap too... my grandson Tyler sat through a whole 3 hour Lord of the Rings movie with me last weekend so I'm not buying it... also funny that a guide telling everyone to keep it short starts with a made up number, that's the kind of thing Dateline would do a whole two hour episode on lol Just my two cents!!

datawrangler92 you cant just STOP at "a 2015"... a 2015 WHAT?? i've been refresh

a 2015 Microsoft Canada marketing report, which got the 8 second number from some website called Statistic Brain that nobody has ever managed to trace back to an actual study... the BBC tried to find the source and came up empty. ngl and the goldfish part was never tested on anybody either somehow it still opens every writing guide, and they're usually the long ones

...a whole 3 hour Lord of the Rings movie with me last weekend so

yep, came up with nothing. https://www.bbc.com/news/health-38896790

and goldfish can remember stuff for months anyway, people have trained them to push levers for food so the whole thing is wrong on both ends. still shows up in like every marketing deck i've ever sat through
