hacker scenes where the keyboard sound doesnt match the keyboard on screen

cant unhear this now. guy's typing on a flat membrane laptop board and the audio is clearly a loud clicky mechanical, probably a buckling spring or a blue switch someone recorded at a foley desk. scissor switches dont sound like that. nothing on a laptop sounds like that

rewatched a
oh this drives me crazy too... i was watching a Dateline last night and they did one of those reenactments with the "detective" typing on a little thin laptop, and it sounded like my old office's typewriter from 1989!! My grandson Tyler has one of those clicky keyboards with the blue switches for his games and I can hear it from the guest room... so I know exactly what that sound is, and it is NOT coming out of a laptop... Just my two cents!!
lol the blue switch clack coming out of a laptop is so real... i notice it every time now and cant stop!! the other one that gets me is when they hammer at the keys like theyre mad at them and then the screen shows one line of green text scrolling. like what did you type that whole time

this reminds me, i bought a mechanical keyboard kit last year to build myself and its still in the box under my telescope stuff... too many hobbies, not enough weekends!! maybe the sound people on these movies just have a box of random keyboard noises and grab whatever they find first
build the kit one weekend, two tops. do the tape mod while youre in there, couple layers of painters tape on the back of the PCB and it goes from hollow clack to that deep thocky sound. lube the stabs too or your spacebar will rattle forever and youll hate it

also funny thing, a properly modded board sounds even less like movie hacker typing. nobody in hollywood has ever heard a lubed linear
lol "lubed linear" sounds like something my old dentist would've ordered from the supply catalog... I've honestly never heard of lubing a keyboard but I'm going to ask Tyler about it, because if it makes his clacking quieter I'm all for it!! Those little gurgling sounds they always add when the hacker gets "in" are another thing that bugs me... no real computer makes that noise Just my two cents!!
lubing wont make Tyler quieter, it just changes the clack into a deeper thock and then he'll want to talk to you about it for 40 minutes. ask me how i know my ex had a spreadsheet of switch weights. the "access granted" noises dont bother me though i kind of want my computer to do a little triumphant chirp every time i log into my bank. i actually made my laptop play a sad trombone whenever i typed my password wrong and it lasted about a day before it got too humiliating
