Pickleball courts playing music on a bluetooth speaker... is there an etiquette for this or is it just me??

ngl so the community center finally put in the new courts by the clubhouse which is lovely... but now there's a group of four on court 3 every Tuesday and Thursday morning who bring a speaker the size of a cooler and play 70s disco at full volume the whole time!! I like the Bee Gees as much as anybody, I had them in my car for years but I cant hear my partner call the score, and I really dont need "Stayin' Alive" in my ear while I'm trying to return a dink... I'm sure they dont mean anything by it. they also hang around on the court ten minutes after their time is up, but that's a whole other post... My grandson Tyler says everybody just wears earbuds now and I should "get with it"... but then how would I hear the herons when I walk home past the pond?? There was a great blue one out there this morning just standing in the reeds, and I'd have missed him with something stuck in my ears. I'm not going to make a fuss, I'm just wondering if other courts have a music rule or if I'm being an old fuddy duddy... a little quiet music is fine with me, just maybe not loud enough to rattle the fence!!
PAM. "as much as anybody"?? the Bee Gees are NOT an as-much-as-anybody band PickleballPam58, they're a STAYIN ALIVE band. those four on court 3 are doing GODS WORK. also maybe they just want a little night fever... during the day
lol glitterfuel i respect the bee gees defense but four hours of falsetto while you're trying to return a dink is a lot. my neighbor used to blast jive talkin at 7am every saturday while he washed his boat. he didnt even take it out on the water, he just washed it. i think its etiquette that whoever brings the speaker has to take requests, and if you wont take requests you're not a dj, you're just a guy with a speaker also keep it at a volume where people can still hear the score being called, otherwise its chaos and everybody says it's 4-2-1 at the same time

lol glitterfuel i respect the bee gees defense but four hours of falsetto while you're trying to return a dink is a lot. my neighbor used to blast jive talkin at 7am every saturday while he washed his boat. like, he didnt even take it out on the water, he just washed it i think its etiquette that whoever... tbh

of course it gets cut off right at the car wash part... the city has a noise ordinance for exactly that, nothing amplified before 9am on weekends, and nobody enforces it unless someone files a written complaint. at 7am i'd have filed one just to make a point, honestly...
lol yeah my post died mid-sentence, very on brand. i was going to say "youre just a guy with a speaker," which isnt even a good punchline so maybe it's better this way. the ordinance thing is news to me tho like, so technically my neighbor was breaking the law every saturday and i just let him? I complained to his wife once, and she said the boat "needed to hear it." i still dont know what that means
lol "the boat needed to hear it" is incredible like, i'd honestly just let him keep going after that answer!! for pickleball tho i think low volume is fine as long as you can still hear people calling the score. the second somebody's yelling "WAIT WAS THAT FOUR OR FIVE" it's too loud

also i brought my speaker to the courts once and played a bunch of Lomelda and everyone just looked at me like i was a sad ghost... so maybe keep it upbeat lol. i'd forgotten my paddle that day too so i really was just standing there with sad music and no paddle. too many hobbies, not enough brain cells
ngl lol the sad ghost with no paddle just standing there with Lomelda playing is honestly the most cinematic pickleball moment ive ever heard. did anybody at least let you play doubles or did you just haunt the bench

volume should be low enough that you can hear the ball pop. thats the whole sport, that little PLOK sound. if i cant hear it its too loud. honestly also i dont want to hear the speaker more than 2 courts away. thats my intellectual rule and im sticking to it
yeah the pop rule works. id add one thing, no lyrics with swearing if theres kids on the next court had a guy blasting explicit rap at 9am with a youth clinic two courts over and the coach just stood there staring at him

also a lot of parks actually have amplified sound rules on the books, so check your city's park ordinance before you get into a fight about it. some ban speakers outright most people never look it up and just argue vibes

anyway bring earbuds and stop making everyone else listen to your playlist

...gets cut off right at the car wash...

lol your neighbor got cut off right when it was getting good ngl blasted jive talkin on repeat or what?? tbh i'd take four hours of falsetto over my pickleball group's playlist, which is just me forgetting to turn off my Beach Fossils album so it loops the whole time!!
honestly a looping Beach Fossils album is the least offensive thing you could do at a pickleball court. nobody can be mad at jangly guitar, it just turns into weather. my gripe is the guy two courts over who plays podcasts out loud. not music, podcasts. i've heard half a true crime series in 15 minute chunks between games, and i still dont know who did it because he always leaves right before the reveal

also i stand by this: if you're gonna blast something in public, at least make it weird. bee gees on repeat is a choice. a podcast is just making me do homework
