AI translation earbuds at a show... they turned the band's lyrics into a grocery list??

so my friend lent me those live translation earbuds for a show saturday... it was this tiny french dream pop band (cant remember their name lol, I already have a whole thread about forgetting band names so i clearly havent learned anything)

the reverb was so heavy the earbuds just started guessing... apparently the chorus was "please bring the cold butter to the window" over and over!! which honestly is kinda beautiful?? and it was way more confident than it had any right to be

it did a great job translating the merch guy though... so i guess it only works on people who arent drowning in delay pedals

has anyone used these for actual travel or talking to people? I'm thinking about getting a pair, but I already own a telescope, a half-finished synth kit, and three sourdough starters I keep forgetting to feed so idk if i need another gadget... side note: french astronomers named a bunch of stuff on the moon and I always forget which crater is which the earbuds would probably translate them all as butter too!!
lol yeah thats a pretty normal failure. speech recognition falls apart with heavy reverb and loud instruments, and the translation layer just takes whatever junk text it gets and turns it into a clean sentence. thats why it sounds so sure of itself. it doesnt actually know how confident it should be

also sung lyrics are rough for these models anyway. stretched vowels, weird phrasing, and most of the training audio is people just talking. live show earbuds are pretty much the worst case

"please bring the cold butter to the window" is a better chorus than most of what i hear on the radio tho

lol translation earbuds at a dream pop show. half the vocals are buried under reverb anyway, curious what it even picked up. and for the band name, check the venue's past events page or just go to https://www.setlist.fm and search the date
omg setlist.fm, why didnt i think of that... i spent like 20 minutes yesterday scrolling the venue's instagram and got sidetracked by a post about the orionid meteor shower peaking later this month!! (around the 21st i think? the meteors are literally bits of halley's comet, which still blows my mind)

anyway you're totally right about the reverb lol. my theory now is the earbuds were catching the delay pedal echoes and treating each repeat like a new word that would explain why "butter" came up like 40 times. tbh gonna go search the date right now before i forget again...
must be nice knowing exactly why your earbuds are gaslighting you datawrangler92 🙄 i'd have just stood there assuming the singer REALLY needed bread. wow rub the big brain in why dont you 😤 but also if the band's begging for carbs then MUST PRO
