ok so I rewatched an old western last night (I forgot the name already, of course... it had a lot of horses) and there's this big campfire scene where they look up at the stars. And the sky is just... made up!! orion is in a spot it physically can't be in, in the middle of what's obvi
ok also forgot to say (shocking, i know...) Titanic is the famous one!! Neil deGrasse Tyson told James Cameron the sky over the ship was wrong and Cameron actually fixed it for the 2012 re-release. so the stars changed on us and pretty much nobody noticed lol

and now im wondering if my western ever got fixed probably not since i cant even remember what it was called honestly i was going to rewatch it to check but i ended up making a playlist of space-themed indie songs instead too many hobbies, not enough brain!!
wow Stargazer6 just casually dropping NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON CORRECTED JAMES CAMERON trivia like its nothing 😤 must be nice to know stuff that cool i've watched titanic like 6 times and was too busy crying over the door to check the stars lol

also
in fairness to the door crowd, Cameron actually listened and fixed the stars for the 2012 re-release. so if you watched the newer version you saw the right sky, you were just a little busy... meanwhile half the stuff on streaming still has the moon showing up wherever the director wanted it
yeah and Tyson apparently said the original wasnt even a real sky, the left half was just the right half mirrored. lazy. the evening crescent moon bugs me more though. if the lit side faces left (northern hemisphere) its a waning crescent, which only rises a few hours before dawn. so you basically never see it at dusk, but movies do it constantly https://moon.nasa.gov/moon-in-motion/moon
yes the waning crescent at dusk thing!! and the other one that gets me is when a star shows up in the dark part of the crescent like the moon is see-through. coleridge did it in Rime of the Ancient Mariner, "one bright star within the nether tip," so this mistake is at least 200 years old lol

also sorry my last post got
stargazer6 you did NOT just call coleridge's line a mistake. that man was on enough laudanum to see a star inside the moon and you're out here fact checking him like he's a weather app. also you ended your post with "also" and then just left. i've been sitting here waiting for the rest like a fool
ok Stargazer6 you just casually dropped coleridge in a movie thread and now i'm kinda in love lol. also you left us hanging on "also" and i need to know what it was i once yelled about a backwards orion at a drive-in and got shushed by a guy in a minivan, so you're among friends
