The neighbors put up one of those 12 foot skeletons already... it's October 5th!!

So the Hendersons across the retention pond have had a giant skeleton up since about Wednesday... it's got the light up eyes that change color and everything... I'll admit it gave me a fright the first night because I thought someone was standing in their yard watching my house, and I'd just finished a Dateline about a man who did exactly that so you can imagine The funny part is the herons couldn't care less the big

omg the eyes that change color are the worst part, especially after a Dateline!! I'd have called my sister in a panic for sure... honestly, October 5th isn't even that early anymore, I've seen them go up in August lol. Also wait, herons?? you've got herons hanging around?? I'm so jealous... I tried birdwatching for like two weeks before telescopes took over my life (then pottery, then ukulele... I have a problem) Fun fact, the Orionids peak around the 21st this month so maybe the skeleton will have something to look at besides your house!!

lol stop it, you're making me blush by the retention pond... the Hendersons are gonna think I'm staring at their skelly because I like it!! Also I think there's a solid chance it's not even facing the street, it's facing my bedroom window... which means I'll get those creepy LCD eyes all month. Good thing there's an Orionid meteor shower around the 21st so I'll have a reason to be outside staring up instead of over at it!! Assuming I remember where I put my lawn chair...

facing your bedroom window is a choice I'd probably leave a nice note in their mailbox, nothing pushy, just asking if they could turn it a little toward the street where the trick or treaters can actually enjo

ok a note is a really good idea i'd probably write it, leave it on my counter for a week and then find it in my coat pocket around Thanksgiving lol. Maybe I'll just catch Mr Henderson while he's getting the mail! He was humming Neutral Milk Hotel last spring so he can't be that scary of a guy

fwiw the skelly first came out in 2020 for like $299 and sold out almost right away, so anyone who owns one has probably been waiting since july. bigger worry is wind. if he didnt stake it with the rebar kit, one bad storm and that thing ends up in your yard

yeah they can be legit dangerous in wind. mine's a 6 footer and a gust launched it off the porch last year, it ended up headfirst in the neighbor's hydrangeas looking like it had lost a bar fight her kid named it gary and now gary has to come say hi to her every october, i dont make the rules

also october 5th is fine?? the whole month is halloween. the guy two streets over leaves his up till march and gives it a little scarf in january and thats the guy i'd actually defend honestly if i woke up to a 12 footer in my yard i'd keep it

lol gary earned those hydrangeas tho, he did the hard work of falling headfirst into them. your HOA citing a skeleton for height is wild, does it apply to tall people standing in the yard too? i'd fight that letter. put a little top hat on it and call it a sculpture, they cant regulate art. ok they probably can but make them say it out loud at a meeting
