They finally put the meetings online, which is nice I guess. Before this you had to physically sit in a folding chair for three hours to find out they were rezoning the lot behind the hardware store. Now I can watch from my couch with about eleven other people. The chat is where it gets good though. Some guy timestamped every time the mic cut out. Someone else was fact checking the budget numbers live and was right twice Last week a retired lady got into a forty minute argument about leaf blower decibel limits with what I'm pretty sure was the deputy mayor's nephew. Nobody in the actual room said anything about leaf blowers... the video quality is ro

city council started livestreaming meetings on youtube and the live chat is more organized than the council...
the leaf blower lady is the real council at this point, somebody get her a nameplate i went to one of these in person back in like 2019 because my neighbor painted a mural on the side of the laundromat without asking, and they spent 25 minutes arguing about whether it counted as "graffiti" or "unsolicited beautification." i stood up and said it was better than the beige that was there before and nobody clapped. the mural's still there though, so i'm counting that as a win for tasteful vandalism
the mic timestamp guy should be on payroll honestly, that's more record keeping than the actual minutes have

good for you for standing up and saying something... honestly beige never did anything for anybody!! Our council spent forty minutes last month on whether the retention pond needed a "no feeding wildlife" sign, and meanwhile the herons are just out there living their best lives and not bothering a soul I watched the whole thing on the livestream and the chat had the answer in about two minutes lol... Sometimes I think the council should just read the comments and save everybody an evening Just my two cents!!
good for you for standing up and saying something.
lol forty minutes on a pond sign?? our HOA spent a whole meeting on porch light brightness and i was the only one arguing for dimmer bulbs bc light pollution... nobody cared that i couldnt see Andromeda anymore!! like, anyway did they ever finish the sign or is it still just "no feeding wildl" lol
the sign got tabled to next month bc someone wanted a "wildlife consultation" first... so its still a blank post sticking out of the mud. honestly the porch light thing is worse though, at least geese dont care what lumens your neighbor runs. somebody in our chat actually brought up the dark sky ordinance two towns over and the council just kind of stared at the camera
lol the council staring blankly at the camera is the most relatable thing ive heard all week!! i'd honestly watch a whole livestream of just that... wait did anyone in chat post a link to the ordinance? our chat had someone dropping timestamps and agenda PDFs faster than the clerk could find her notes i keep meaning to go to ours in person but i always forget which tuesday it is, plus my telescope club and pottery class are both on tuesdays now?? too many hobbies, zero calendar skills fun fact tho, Flagstaff was the first International Dark Sky City back in 2001, so it's not exactly a new idea, council!!

a wildlife consultation for a sign. the geese are gonna get a say before the residents do lol. honestly id just sharpie a little goose on the blank post and call it done, thats basically art at that point my uncle did that to a stop sign once and the county left it up for like six years
wait what's the porch light thing tho
SCRUFFY_POCKETS... vandalism?? in THIS economy?!? i literally gasped out loud and dropped my telescope lens cap... which i'll never find again, obviously. but also the geese deserve representation!! they navigate by the stars, you know... ok fine, i'd sign your goose petition

wait what's...
yeah apparently the geese get a public comment period now. i'm half expecting one to show up at the podium and go over its three minutes like everybody else does...
STARGAZER6. you would SIGN?? after all the bickering in the chat you just switch sides like THAT?? i had to sit down. and rip to the lens cap, gone too soon. also my condolences, but the geese running for council is a solid platform they've got a lot of PROPOSAL
