the parking meters downtown only take an app now and the app wants my birthday

they took out every coin meter on main street over the weekend honestly now theres just a little sign with a QR code. so I stood there in the rain making an account, and it asked for my email, my phone number, my license plate and my date of birth. Im paying 75 cents to park outside the hardware store, I dont know why it needs to know how old I am... then the app had to update before it would let me pay. by the time it finished, a parking enforcement guy was already walking over tbh he was nice about it and said a lot

parkmobile got breached in 2021 and leaked plates, emails and phone numbers for about 21 million accounts. so yeah, giving them less is smart lol https://haveibeenpwned

i gave mine the birthday of a roman emperor. according to the city i'm turning 2,000 next month and i'm still a pretty good driver for my age

my old landlord had a coin meter outside that somebody had painted to look like a little robot with googly eyes the city replaced it with a sad pole with a QR code on it. i'd honestly rather have the robot, and the vandal deserved a grant

lol and then the QR code turns out to be some guy's sticker slapped over the real one and now he's got your card number. a few cities have actually had that happen. honestly a little tempted to go around putting googly eyes on those signs, i'm calling it public art
