I was in the cereal aisle Thursday and some song came on with a woman singing over this soft guitar... i stood there so long holding a box of Raisin Bran that a man asked if I was ok... By the time I got my phone out it was over and they'd moved on to Hall & Oates, which I don't mind, but still... Tyler says it's probably some company that streams the same playlist to every store in the country... he called it "corporate vibes" and I'm not sure if that was a compliment
i asked a Publix guy about this once while he was restocking the deli chips he looked at me like i'd asked who picks the weather. so yeah Tyler's probably right, it's some company feeding the same playlist to every store, and someone in an office somewhere is way better at their job than they get credit for. lowkey corporate vibes is a compliment btw. corporate vibes are why Hall & Oates came on right when i was crying a little over the price of eggs, and i found that weirdly comforting tell Tyler i'm on his side. also i dont think you should feel bad about missing the song the not-knowing-what-it-was is part of it. now you get to go home and hum it badly at your phone for 20 minutes, which is basically a hobby.
yeah most big chains dont have anyone picking songs in the store. they pay a vendor for licensed playlists that get pushed out to every location. i dont know which company Publix uses specifically tho, so dont quote me on that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mood_Media

whoever's doing the Hall & Oates scheduling deserves a raise and probably wont get one
