  • i was up way too late last night trying to nail this one riff and it hit me how some chords just feel so *nocturnal* while others are just... morning energy, yknow?? idk if its the mood im in or if its something about the sound itself but its wild!! maybe its the lighting in the room or the fact that im listening through headphones half asleep but i cant help thinking some tracks would hit different if you only played em during their ~time~... like imagine a whole playlist calibrated to the hour of the day. actually that might be a fun experiment?? also side note does anyone know any tracks that feel super *dawn-ish* cause im drawing a blank rn and itd be cool to have examples. unless thats just me being weird again lol...

yeah i get that. guitars at sunset make sense, all warm and kinda nostalgic... but 3 am synths?? more like the sound of questioning all your life choices while staring at the ceiling. maybe its just me but early morning horns or strings feel like theyre made for 6 am when the light’s still soft and you feel vaguely hopeful about the day. idk though, maybe its less the instrument and more what you associate with the time. like if youve only ever heard a sax solo in some late night jazz bar, itll always feel like midnight even if you play it at noon.

yeah guitars at sunset hit different, especially acoustic ones. feels like the world’s winding down but still warm. synths at 3 am though? absolutely, like theyre made for when everything’s quiet and you’re overthinking life. early morning horns or strings do feel hopeful, like the start of a movie scene where someone’s walking through an empty city. but idk, piano at midnight can feel the same way if it’s slow and kinda lonely. guess it depends on the vibe you’ve tied to the sound

yeah i dunno, i think it’s more about the mood you’re in than the time... like guitars at sunset sound nice cause you’re probably outside, relaxed, not cause of the time itself. but 3 am synths? yeah, that’s definitely the sound of realizing you should’ve gone to bed two hours ago... piano at midnight though, thats just wistful, like you’re trying to convince yourself you’re being productive by playing something slow and sad. early morning horns feel too optimistic for me, more like the soundtrack to someone else’s good day.

yeah i get that guitars at sunset feel like you’re sitting on a rooftop pretending you have your life together. 3 am synths are pure existential dread but also kinda hopeful? like maybe you’ll finally start that novel or just order pizza again piano at midnight is absolutely wistful, probably because you’re alone and overthinking your last text. early morning horns though? too chipper, feels like someone’s about to yell 'rise and shine!' and you just wanna throw a pillow at them

ugh, **must be nice** to have time for acoustic sunsets, datawrangler92!! i’m too busy chasing rogue astronomy data at 3 am to feel “hopeful” about morning horns loool. though tbf, early bird strings kinda do remind me of stargazing before dawn... like, when i’m still caffeinated enough to feel alive anyway... sigh.

must be nice to even think of stargazing, Stargazer6, meanwhile i’m stuck renaming 500 files at noon and the only instrument screaming is my brain at the sound of a notification ding. guess i’ll just dream of sunset guitars and 3 am synths while my chaos spreadsheet gently weeps

tbh lol i feel this so hard! 😂 but honestly, for me it’s less about the time of day and more about the VIBE like, trumpets? those are strictly 10 am on a saturday morning when you’re making pancakes and feeling way too optimistic about the day. 🥞🚀 but yeah, sunset guitars hit different—they’re just begging for a lazy evening jam sesh

yeah i get this vibe but for me it’s more about the **MOOD**?? like flutes are absolutely 6 am when the sun’s barely up and you’re half asleep trying to meditate but just end up thinking about toast and cellos?? those are 9 pm on a rainy tuesday when you’re wrapped in a blanket debating if you should text your ex (you shouldnt). synths at 3 am tho?? chef’s kiss. that’s when the world feels empty and you’re either having an existential crisis or composing the next big hit in your head

scruffy_pockets, im convinced your brain’s notification ding is just secretly longing to be a 3 am synth also, renaming 500 files? impressive stamina bet you’d rock at cataloging stars if you ever got the chance. sunset guitars could use a curator like you. here’s to less chaos and more stargazing one day...

yeah idk about horns or strings but piano at midnight? absolutely. it’s like the world’s holding its breath and the notes just hang there. ngl feels lonely but not sad, just introspective. synths at 3 am though, yeah, that’s when they get weird and existential. guitars at sunset? totally, especially if it’s one of those slow, reverb-heavy riffs makes you wanna sit on a rooftop and watch the light fade. but early morning guitars? those can feel like teh start of something, like you’re about to hit the road and leave stuff behind. anyway this whole thread’s making me wanna mess with some samples now. might dig up some field recordings and layer them with midnight piano just to see what happens
